
Vietnamese airlines transported 44.1 million passengers (up 20.3% over the same period in 2022). International passengers alone increased sharply to 111.5 million passengers (up 300.2%), while domestic passengers reached 32.6 million passengers (down 3.6%).
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, currently 5 Vietnamese airlines are operating 67 routes connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang with 19 other local airports with over 650 flights per day. In addition to increasing the frequency of existing routes, Vietnamese airlines are also operating some new routes such as: Can Tho - Van Don, Hanoi - Ca Mau.
The international air transport market continues to maintain recovery momentum for most traditional markets (except for China and Russia) and the presence of some new markets in the Central Asian region such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
Besides, Vietnamese airlines are also stepping up their operations on flights to India and Australia.
Currently, there are 64 foreign airlines and 5 Vietnamese airlines operating in the international market with over 169 international routes connecting 28 countries and territories in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa to destinations in Vietnam such as: Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Hue.
Of which, the 10 international markets with the largest number of international visitors to Vietnam include: Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia and India.
In contrast to the increasing passenger market, cargo throughput at airports has decreased. In the first 9 months of 2023, the total air cargo market reached 762,000 tons (down about 18% compared to the same period in 2022).
Cargo throughput through airports reached 887,500 tons (down 15.3%). Of which, international cargo volume reached 637,000 tons (down 24%) and domestic cargo volume reached 250,400 tons (up 19.5%). Cargo volume transported by Vietnamese airlines reached 230,000 tons (up 8.7%).
