Heroic national history through a series of paintings and photos that won noble awards

On August 30, the Exhibition of Fine Arts and Photography Works by Authors Awarded or Posthumously Awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize in 2022 opened at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. The exhibition was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to celebrate the 79th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized: “The exhibition is a meaningful cultural and artistic activity to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. This is also an opportunity for the public to access, learn about, and directly enjoy works of high aesthetic value, with profound content and ideas.”

The exhibition displays 47 works (26 fine art works, 21 works, and groups of photographic works) by 26 authors who were awarded or posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

The works awarded the Prize are typical works in the creative artistic career of the authors, highly appreciated by the Professional Council and recognized by the State. These are fine art and photographic works of high artistic value, profound ideological content, truly reflecting the historical periods of the nation.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Thuy - daughter of the late artist Bui Trang Chuoc - present at the exhibition, said that rice flowers are a main image in all the "finalized" drawings of artist Bui Trang Chuoc. "To get the most vivid image of the drooping rice flower, my father had to wade into the field many times to cherish and admire the rice flower from many different angles", Ms. Thuy said emotionally.

In the photo is the work Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Complex, painted and engraved by artist Bui Trang Chuoc, posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

The work Heroic – Indomitable – Loyal – Responsible includes 10 photos by author and photographer Vo An Khanh (Vo Nguyen Nhan) was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

The work was published before 1975. The content of the photo series speaks of the great contribution of both effort and blood of women during the fierce and arduous resistance period until the glorious victory of our nation.

They are the solid rear and the proud and brave Vietnamese warriors when facing the invaders. They have transformed into the Vietnamese posture worthy of the eight golden words "Heroic - Indomitable - Loyal - Responsible" that Uncle Ho bestowed upon them.

Photographer and journalist Chu Chi Thanh was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022 for his work Two Soldiers, consisting of four photos: Handshake, Happy Face; Two Soldiers; Quang Tri Bridge and Reluctant Hands.

Talking about the circumstances of the creation of the photo series, former war correspondent and journalist Chu Chi Thanh once shared: “The photo of Two Soldiers was taken by me at the border area of ​​Long Quang, Trieu Trach commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri. At that time, I was sent to record images of the largest prisoner exchange in the history of the war in Vietnam.”

The work " The enemy breaks, we keep going" consists of 5 photos by photographer and former reporter of Vietnam News Agency Dinh Quang Thanh, who was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, photographer Dinh Quang Thanh said that during the war against America, he often lived in Nam Dinh - an important traffic area in the North. During those years, Dinh Quang Thanh stayed at the main traffic points of Nam Dinh to take photos.

His photos that no one else could take reflect the resilient fighting spirit and endless creativity of the armed forces working together, of the team of engineers and technical workers building bridges and ferries, of the youth volunteers filling bomb craters and clearing roads for vehicles to pass.

The group of works The Simplicity of the General by journalist and photographer Tran Tuan (Tran Van Tuan) - former reporter of the Photo Department, Vietnam News Agency - won the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022, is on display at the exhibition.

Journalist and photographer Tran Tuan once shared the reason why he only chose photos of the General's daily life, extremely simple, to be considered for the award in literature and art is because, during many years of being close to the General, he felt his simplicity, humility, and exemplary character. Therefore, he always struggled and tried to capture the most authentic and simple images in the General's daily life.

The group of works "Portraits of Heroic Pilots of the Armed Forces" praised by Uncle Ho and awarded his badge by photographer Nguyen Xuan At won the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

The Quang Trung folk paintings and the De Tham folk paintings displayed at the exhibition, also attracted attention from visitors, are by artist Nguyen Dang San. The work was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

The work My Old Market in My Hometown by author and painter Hoang Sung won the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

The work " Day of Return" by photographer Le Van won the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022.

Photographer Dao Tien Dat once said that "The Day of Return" is a work with good lighting, composition, clear ideological content, and clearly describes the character of "Uncle Ho's Soldier" on the day of his glorious return, but very simple.

Among the 128 authors and co-authors who were awarded or posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022, the fine arts and photography community is honored and proud to have 26 authors who were awarded or posthumously awarded the Prize.

Among them, 3 authors were awarded or posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize: Painter Bui Trang Chuoc, Photographer Vo Nguyen Nhan, and Photographer Chu Chi Thanh.

The 23 authors awarded the State Prize include painters: Nguyen Van Chung, Tran Dong Luong, Nguyen Tai Luong, Nguyen Minh My, Nguyen Van Giao, Hoang Sung, Dinh Gia Thang, Trinh Hoang Tan; artisan Nguyen Dang San; photographers: Nguyen A, Nguyen Xuan At, Nguyen Dang, Nguyen Huu Loc, Lam Hoang Thanh Liem, Ngo Minh Nhat, Nguyen Hoang Nam, Tran Van Giac, Luong Hue Quan, Ho Sy So, Dinh Quang Thanh, Pham Van Thinh, Tran Van Tuan, Le Van.

The exhibition of fine arts and photography works by authors awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize in 2022 will be open to visitors until September 8.
