Propagating and disseminating legal education to students through mobile trials

On March 28, at Bac Lieu University, Bac Lieu City People's Court opened a mobile trial of two criminal cases against defendants for the crimes of "Violating road traffic regulations" and "Gambling".

Based on the crime prevention plan, especially crimes against traffic safety and gambling crimes, in March 2025 (Youth Month), based on the functions and tasks of the two parties, Bac Lieu City People's Court and Bac Lieu University will develop a coordination plan to organize mobile trials at Bac Lieu University so that students can attend the trial. Thereby, enhancing the effectiveness ofeducation and propaganda of legal regulations on ensuring traffic safety and order and the prevention and combat of gambling crimes among young people today; creating a strong change in awareness, raising the sense of responsibility and mobilizing the participation of the whole society in the work of preventing and combating crimes among adolescents.

At the trial, defendant Truong Dien (21 years old, residing in Vinh Thinh commune, Hoa Binh district) was sentenced by the People's Court of Bac Lieu city to 1 year and 6 months in prison for the crime of "Violating road traffic regulations" as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 260 of the Penal Code. Previously, on the evening of July 8, 2024, on Giong Nhan street (Hiep Thanh commune, Bac Lieu city), defendant Truong Dien drove a motorbike without a driver's license and while drinking alcohol while participating in road traffic in the direction of Xiem Cang pagoda to Cao Van Lau street, encroached on the left side of the road, resulting in a collision with a motorbike going in the opposite direction driven by Mr. DT. The accident caused the victim to die on the way to the hospital.

Regarding the trial of defendants convicted of gambling, Bac Lieu City People's Court brought two defendants, Dang Thanh Hien and Cao Viet Dung, to trial for gambling due to football betting.

According to the indictment, from June 15 to 20, 2024, at Hamlet 10 (Ward 1, Bac Lieu City), the two defendants Dang Thanh Hien and Cao Viet Dung participated in football betting on matches of the EURO 2024 Finals, in the form of betting on wins and losses with money. Specifically, defendant Dang Thanh Hien gambled 4 times, on matches between Poland and the Netherlands; Slovenia and Denmark; Serbia and England; Croatia and Albania. Defendant Cao Viet Dung gambled once on the match between Poland and the Netherlands.

According to the Trial Panel, the defendants' criminal acts have violated public order, affected the security and order situation in the locality and are the cause of many other types of crimes. Therefore, the defendants will be isolated from social life for a period of time, in order to educate the defendants and also to deter and prevent society in general. At the end of the trial, the Trial Panel sentenced the defendant Dang Thanh Hien to 9 months in prison and the defendant Cao Viet Dung to 6 months in prison for the crime of "Gambling".
