The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) has officially shut down the El Feel oil field in southwestern Libya, further exacerbating supply disruptions in the North African country amid an increasingly complex political crisis in Libya.
Libya's total crude oil production has dropped sharply from more than 1.17 million barrels per day recorded in July 2024, before the oil fields were blockaded, to 591,000 barrels per day as of now, NxOC said.
On August 26, the government in eastern Libya, backed by General Khalifa Haftar - Commander of the Libyan National Army, announced the closure of all oil fields, as well as the suspension of all crude oil production and export activities of the North African country.
The latest move by the eastern government came after the Government of National Unity (GNU) in Tripoli, headed by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, decided to remove Sadiq Al Kabir, Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL). The head of the CBL is responsible for managing and distributing oil revenues to the two parallel governments in Libya.
