Ly Thuong Kiet Temple Festival in the Year of the Dragon 2024

On the morning of March 5 (January 25, Giap Thin year), at the Ly Thuong Kiet National Hero Temple, Ha Ngoc commune (Ha Trung) held the Ly Thuong Kiet Spring Giap Thin 2024 Temple Festival.

The festival is preserved and organized by the people of Ha Ngoc commune on January 25 every year to pray for national peace, people's peace, favorable weather, and bountiful harvests. At the same time, it commemorates the great contributions of National Hero Ly Thuong Kiet who contributed to defeating the Northern invaders, expanding the Southern territory, and building a strong Dai Viet state.

Saint Ly Thuong Kiet was born in the year of the Goat (1019) and died in June of the year of the Rooster (1105), at the age of 86. His real name was Ngo Tuan, his courtesy name was Thuong Kiet, from An Xa village, Quang Duc district (now Hanoi). Ly Thuong Kiet was born into a family of famous generals, his father was Sung Tiet general Ngo An Ngu, so the image of famous generals permeated him from a young age; when he grew up, Ly Thuong Kiet became a talented general, the soul of the greatest feats of arms in our country's history in the 11th century. During his official career, Ly Thuong Kiet lived through 3 kings: Ly Thai Tong (1028-1054), Ly Thanh Tong (1054-1072) and Ly Nhan Tong (1072-1127).

He had many great achievements, was rewarded very generously by the court, was accepted as the Righteous Son of the Emperor of the Ly Dynasty, and was allowed to take the emperor's surname; held the positions of Thuong Tru Quoc, Thai Uy, and Khai Quoc Cong. In 1028, he was sent to Thanh Hoa town and worked there for 19 years. Ly Thuong Kiet was an outstanding military man, with outstanding military talent, defeated the Song and pacified the Cham, and won every battle. He was also a talented politician and outstanding diplomat. Ly Thuong Kiet was a great personality, a top national hero of the Ly Dynasty whose name and career will forever shine in the glorious history of the nation.

When Thai Uy Ly Thuong Kiet was in charge of Thanh Hoa town, after the Lunar New Year holiday, people did not start working until January 25. Therefore, after his death, people built a temple to commemorate the great contributions of the national hero in Ha Ngoc commune. The festival has been preserved and organized by the people here for many years.

In addition to the ceremony organized according to traditional rituals, the festival with many unique activities such as lion dance, cheo singing, drum dance, cultural exchange, sports exchange and chess games, tug of war... attracted a large number of people and tourists to participate.
