The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) decided to go big, inviting the Argentine team to Jakarta for a friendly match on the occasion of FIFA Days in June 2023. This is the time when the Argentine team wants to tour Asia and they considered a number of offers before accepting the invitation from Indonesia.
According to reputable source TyC Sports, Albiceleste will face the Australian team in China on June 15. They will then play a friendly match against the Indonesian team on June 18 or 19.
Argentina will travel to Southeast Asia to meet Indonesia.
Although Argentina has given a specific schedule, Indonesia has not yet officially announced this special friendly match. If successful, Indonesia will become the first Southeast Asian team to have the opportunity to compete with a reigning World Cup champion.
To invite Argentina and ensure big stars like Lionel Messi attend, PSSI had to spend 5 million USD (equivalent to 117 billion VND). Member of PSSI Executive Committee (Exco), Vivin Cahyani said this is a reasonable number.
Vivin Cahyani told Indonesian media: “ Let’s all pray. There is no official date yet, but hopefully Argentina will come here. They have the world’s number one player and many world-class stars. If that is the price to bring Argentina here to play, I think it is not a problem. I believe that the match will have a positive impact on society as well as our players .”
“ In addition, Indonesian football will benefit as we gain experience and direct interaction with world-class players, which we would never have under normal conditions. So I think this match cannot be judged by money, everything is relative. ”
In addition, Vivin Cahyani affirmed that PSSI had personally invited Argentina to play the friendly match. They did not rely on sponsors or launch any special advertising campaign to organize this match.
