(NLDO) - For the first time in Vietnam, a drill was held to handle fire fighting, rescue aircraft and relocate disabled aircraft.
The exercise was hosted by Noi Bai International Airport in coordination with Vinh International Airport on December 12 at the Vinh airport military parking area. The plane encountered an incident and requested an emergency landing at Noi Bai, but due to bad weather at Noi Bai and limited visibility, the plane diverted to land in Vinh.
Simulator aircraft used in exercises
Nearly 200 individuals and 22 vehicles and equipment participating in the exercise were mobilized from units under Noi Bai airport and Vinh airport along with many coordinating and cooperating units.
The exercise was codenamed KN.24 with the following detailed scenario: At approximately 8:24 a.m. on X month Y year 2024, Noi Bai airport received a notification from the Air Traffic Control Tower about flight number BC-206 of X Airlines on the VCA-NBA route, experiencing a hydraulic oil system problem and requesting an emergency landing at Noi Bai, and at the same time requesting emergency assistance. The plane was scheduled to land at 8:39 a.m. Noi Bai airport immediately activated the full emergency plan, deployed ground forces and equipment, and was ready at the assembly location.
At 8:37 a.m., the Air Traffic Control Tower announced that due to bad weather at Noi Bai, cloudy skies, and limited visibility, the flight crew requested to divert to land at Vinh Airport. Vinh Airport received the information and deployed a full emergency plan to respond to the emergency situation.
Aircraft rescue equipment used in the exercise
When the plane landed at Vinh airport, due to a decrease in hydraulic pressure, the front landing gear did not fully release. After landing, the nose gear collapsed. Due to friction between the nose of the plane and the runway, sparks were emitted and a fire broke out. The plane stopped at the end of the runway at Vinh airport and lost the ability to move. There were 180 passengers, 2,000 kg of cargo and 8 crew members on board.
Noi Bai and Vinh International Airports, together with relevant components, deployed information, carried out firefighting and rescue work, and organized the relocation of incapacitated aircraft according to the plan.
The exercise consists of two main parts: Part 1 is a drill on operating the staff and command mechanism and part 2 is a drill on handling situations of the forces directly responding to emergencies.
The exercise is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1: Aircraft firefighting and rescue exercise includes 2 main contents: Operating the aircraft firefighting and rescue mechanism and Practical exercise on aircraft firefighting and rescue; Phase 2: Organizing the evacuation of incapacitated aircraft using aircraft rescue equipment includes 3 main contents: Operating the evacuation mechanism on incapacitated aircraft, Practical exercise on evacuation of incapacitated aircraft and Handling the scene and drawing lessons from the exercise.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - Deputy General Director of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), congratulated the success of the exercise and emphasized the importance of replicating this exercise model to provide comprehensive support to ACV's affiliated airports. This demonstrates the spirit of always being ready to respond to any emergency situation across Vietnam's airport network.
Serious training brought success to KN.24, creating an impression of the professionalism of the forces when coordinating to handle situations, especially in the use of aircraft rescue equipment to move disabled aircraft. This was also the first time that aircraft rescue equipment was used in actual exercises at the airport when an incident occurred.
