Taking us to visit his family's Thai jackfruit garden intercropped with durian, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tan shared: This garden is over 3 hectares wide, durian needs a few more years to bear fruit, while jackfruit has been bearing fruit for several years now. On average, Mr. Tan harvests about 6-10 tons each time, earning from 200 to more than 300 million VND. Compared to some local gardens, the economic efficiency of the jackfruit garden is not high, but it is a dream source of income for many farmers.

Thai jackfruit is an easy-to-grow tree, it will bear fruit after about 12-15 months of planting and will bear fruit almost all year round. From the time the tree flowers, bears fruit until the fruit ripens, the time is about 4 and a half months; and to give the tree time to recover after bearing fruit, gardeners only leave fruit twice a year. This year, the price of Thai jackfruit ranges from 34,000-40,000 VND/kg. Although not as high as in previous years, this price is enough to make many gardeners like Mr. Tan very satisfied.

What surprised us the most was that Mr. Tan's family currently has 6 jackfruit gardens, with a total area of up to 12 hectares, each year producing over 200 tons, with a total revenue of nearly 7 billion VND. Mr. Nguyen Huu Tan said that before, he only had 4-5 hectares of garden land given by his parents since he got married and moved out to grow orange trees. When orange trees were no longer economically efficient, he switched to growing Thai jackfruit. Thanks to the loan from Agribank, Mr. Tan's family's crop conversion was quite favorable.

After several years of planting, the jackfruit trees gave a good income, so Mr. Tan and his wife saved up some money, borrowed more capital and bought more garden land from neighboring households. Little by little, over many years, the garden area has expanded to 12 hectares.

Although the early days of starting a business were difficult, with their love for their homeland and farming, Mr. Tan and his wife were determined to stay on the land and their hometown. The valuable thing is that he always seeks to learn from the experiences of those who have gone before, including learning about production and farming experiences from social networks. Thanks to that, the family's garden is always well cared for and grows smoothly.

In addition to gardening, Mr. Tan also opened a warehouse to buy jackfruit for local gardeners. According to him, opening a warehouse to collect jackfruit helps him directly access the purchasing source, so he is not forced to pay too much and has more income. Currently, Mr. Tan's family's 6 jackfruit gardens and warehouses provide regular jobs for dozens of workers.

Recounting the process of developing the family economy, Mr. Tan did not forget to share about the resources and great encouragement that helped him boldly plan and implement his business plan and develop the family economy, which is the capital of Agribank. Mr. Nguyen Huu Tan said that he has borrowed capital from Agribank for 14-15 years.

At Agribank, the loan procedures are easy, the loan payment or deposit process is always supported quickly by bank staff. The bank's lending and payment conditions are suitable for the loan and capital turnover requirements, so Mr. Tan has continued to maintain a credit relationship with Agribank for many years.

Thanks to Agribank's adequate and timely capital, not only Mr. Tan's family but also many other farming households have more solid resources to invest, develop production and enrich themselves legitimately in their homeland. As of February 29, 2024, the total outstanding debt of Agribank Chau Thanh District Branch, Hau Giang Province reached nearly 2,200 billion VND, of which outstanding loans for agriculture and rural areas accounted for nearly 84%.

In recent years, Chau Thanh district has received investment attention to become the Urban - Industrial center of Hau Giang province. Along with investing capital to support the locality in implementing the district development strategy, Agribank also prioritizes capital for investment in agricultural - rural development. These important resources have been contributing to creating new momentum, helping Chau Thanh - Hau Giang develop faster and more balanced, worthy of being a "gateway" district, a land that is marking many milestones on the path of building and developing Hau Giang homeland.
