Peanuts and spring corn in Cam Xuyen infected with dangerous pests and diseases

In the spring crop of 2025, Cam Xuyen district will plant nearly 700 hectares of spring peanuts and more than 100 hectares of spring corn in the semi-mountainous and coastal communes; mainly concentrated in the communes of Cam My, Cam Due, Cam Duong, Yen Hoa, Cam Thinh...

The spring crop area of ​​Cam Xuyen district will be planted in two batches at the end of January 2025 and the end of February 2025.

Spring corn is infected with armyworm and leaf-eating caterpillar.

At this time, due to the changing weather, erratic rain and sunshine, and high humidity, some areas of spring peanuts and spring corn have been damaged by pests and diseases.

Specifically, the entire district discovered 4 hectares of peanuts infected with root rot, stem rot, black mold and more than 2 hectares with leaf and branch blight; corn plants were infected with armyworms and leaf-eating worms (infected area was 4 hectares). The infection rate is quite high, if not prevented in time, it can easily spread widely and affect the crop yield at the end of the season.

The infected areas are mainly concentrated in some communes: Cam My, Yen Hoa, Cam Duong.

Cam My people focus on catching worms, weeding, and taking care of spring peanuts.

To protect crops, currently, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock of Cam Xuyen district has instructed people on measures to spray pesticides for prevention; destroy diseased branches to avoid spreading widely and create ventilation for the trees.

In addition, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock in Cam Xuyen district also recommends that farmers combine balanced fertilization to help plants grow healthily, increase their resistance to pests and diseases; take care of and weed plants to help them grow and develop well.
