Synchronizing solutions to protect the "green lung" during the hot season in Vu Quang

Vu Quang National Park is assigned to manage and protect 57,000 hectares of forest and forestry land, of which more than 18,700 hectares are in the "red alert" area for fire risk, spanning 3 districts (Huong Khe, Vu Quang, Huong Son) with more than 62km of border adjacent to Laos. To protect this giant "green lung", from the beginning of the dry season, the unit has prepared well plans and strategies.

Vu Quang National Park is synchronously implementing solutions to protect the "green lung" from fire.

“With a large area of ​​natural forest and rugged terrain, especially at some border points, the unit has proactively developed specific PCCCR plans, suitable for each "hot spot". On hot sunny days, we will mobilize maximum forces, organize regular patrols; renew warning signs and forest fire forecast signs; and at the same time "tighten" the control of people entering and leaving the forest" - Mr. Nguyen Danh Ky, Director of Vu Quang National Park shared.

Amidst the vast green of Vu Quang mountains and forests, nearly 24,000 hectares of forest in Quang Tho commune appear as a rich "green lung". Aware of this great value, right from the beginning of the dry season, Vu Quang Forest Protection Department has proactively "gone to every alley, knocked on every door", closely coordinating with local authorities to organize a widespread PCCCR propaganda campaign in the commune.

Forest rangers also visit each family with forests to disseminate legal regulations, raising awareness of protecting the "green home" in each resident.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Party Secretary, Chairman of Quang Tho Commune People's Committee affirmed: "The initiative of each family and individual in preventing and early detecting "fires" is a key factor in protecting the forest. In addition to raising awareness of forest protection, the commune has developed detailed maps of forest areas, "checked" "red zones" with high risk of fire and established patrol teams ready to respond when bad situations occur".

The propaganda work on PCCCR is focused on implementation by Vu Quang Forest Protection Department.

In addition to the national park area, Vu Quang owns nearly 50,000 hectares of forest and forestry land, spread over 10 communes and towns, including more than 12,000 hectares of key forests that are prone to fire, concentrated in the communes of Huong Minh, Tho Dien, Quang Tho and Vu Quang town.

To proactively respond early, the district has established 12 commune-level fire prevention and control steering committees and 24 forest fire fighting teams, mobilizing nearly 800 people to join the powerful forest protection force. Response plans have also been developed in detail.

Since early April, Vu Quang Forest Protection Department has proactively coordinated with localities to synchronously deploy extensive propaganda measures and drastic forest protection solutions. Not only developing detailed response scenarios for each situation, the unit also focuses on improving the capacity of on-site firefighting forces through skill training sessions and providing necessary equipment.

Strict control of people entering and leaving the forest during hot days helps Vu Quang protect the forest better.

Mr. Ton Quang Thanh - Head of Vu Quang District Forest Protection Department emphasized: "We thoroughly understand the motto "prevention is better than cure", thereby building a harmonious coordination between the forest rangers, local authorities and people to create a combined strength to deal with "fire". The unit also strengthens the application of information technology, proactively closely monitors weather developments and forest fire risk indicators, thereby providing early warnings and effective response measures.

In 2025, the locality aims to maintain forest cover and prevent forest fires. We believe that with careful preparation and a proactive spirit, Vu Quang will safely overcome the hot season, firmly protecting the "green lung" of the homeland."
