In the exciting atmosphere of welcoming the new Spring, which is also the occasion to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025), we proudly look back at the great achievements of the 40-year renovation process under the leadership of the Party.
With historical miracles, the position and strength accumulated from the renovation process, Vietnam entered the era of national growth - the era of acceleration and breakthrough, starting with the important event - the 14th National Party Congress.
40 years of lasting imprint
As General Secretary To Lam pointed out, the beginning of a new era is the 14th National Party Congress, when we successfully completed the renovation process after 40 years of persistent work and innovation and achieved great achievements.
From a poor, backward, low-level, besieged and embargoed country, Vietnam has become a developing country with average income, deeply and widely integrated into the global economy.
The size of the economy in 2023 will increase 96 times compared to 1986. Vietnam is in the group of 40 countries with the largest economies in the world; has diplomatic relations with 194 countries and territories across five continents; builds strategic cooperative partnerships and comprehensive strategic partnerships with all major powers in the world.
According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in 2024, in the context of many difficulties and uncertainties, thanks to the high determination, great efforts, and drastic actions of the entire political system, people, and business community under the leadership of the Party, our country's socio-economic situation continues to recover positively. In general, in 2024, the economy achieved and exceeded all 15 main targets; including outstanding results in many fields, highly appreciated by the people of the whole country and the international community.
The country's stature and position are thus enhanced in the international arena.
Vietnam continues to be a bright spot in growth and is among the countries with high growth rates in the region and the world. GDP growth for the whole year is estimated to increase by 7.09%; economic scale reaches about 470 billion USD. Economic structure continues to shift positively; growth quality is improved; labor productivity growth is estimated at 5.7%, exceeding the set target; economic freedom index increased by 13 places, to 59/176 countries and territories...
Vietnam is highly appreciated for controlling inflation and maintaining macroeconomic stability in the context of strong fluctuations and many difficulties in the world. Continuing to be a safe and attractive destination for international businesses, partners and investors, Vietnam is among the 15 developing countries attracting the largest foreign investment capital in the world, reaching about 40 billion USD; of which realized FDI capital is about 25 billion USD.

As one of the 20 economies with the largest trade scale in the world with 17 FTAs, Vietnam has become an important link in regional and global supply chains.
Vietnam is in the process of strongly transforming into a digital economy, green economy, high technology, environmentally friendly; in particular, it has established an important position in the global semiconductor industry chain, attracting many large technology corporations. The national brand value in 2024 will reach 507 billion USD, ranking 32/193, up 1 place compared to 2023.
Strategic breakthroughs were focused on and implemented resolutely and achieved many clear results. The lives of 105 million people were significantly improved, the poverty rate decreased sharply; the Millennium Development Goals were completed early...
The achievements of 40 years of renovation are enormous and of historical significance, helping Vietnam accumulate position and strength for breakthrough development in the next period. However, to realize aspirations in the new era, the General Secretary also pointed out the need to clearly recognize the challenges that are currently posed to see where we are in today's world.
Top priorities in the new era
The era of national development is the era of breakthrough development, acceleration, and successful construction of a socialist Vietnam that is rich, strong, democratic, equitable, civilized, prosperous, and happy.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the top priority in the new era is to successfully implement the strategic goals by 2030, Vietnam will become a developing country with modern industry and high average income; by 2045 it will become a developed socialist country with high income; all people will be comprehensively developed, have a prosperous, free, happy and civilized life.
To successfully achieve the goal of becoming a developing country with high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045, the General Secretary emphasized, "from 2025, we must make maximum efforts, create breakthrough factors in attracting investment, strongly promote production, business and services; strive to achieve a growth rate of at least 8% or higher; create a solid foundation to achieve double-digit growth from 2026." From now to 2030 is a period, a strategic opportunity, a sprint stage for Vietnam.

In the spirit of the General Secretary's direction, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted the importance of reviewing the targets and tasks of the entire 5 years to promote and do better with the targets that have been achieved and exceeded; make efforts to complete the targets that have not been achieved to strive to achieve the highest level of the 5-year plan 2021-2025.
The Prime Minister emphasized the priority of promoting growth associated with macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring major balances of the economy; developing scenarios to achieve growth targets, focusing on renewing traditional growth drivers (investment, consumption, export) while creating breakthroughs to promote new growth drivers, new and advanced production forces...
Along with that, promoting the arrangement of the "Refined - Lean - Strong - Effective - Effective - Efficient" organizational apparatus; promoting the implementation of 3 strategic breakthroughs; continuing to build and perfect institutions; promoting the development of strategic infrastructure; focusing on training and developing human resources, especially high-quality human resources... are also important solutions that have been put forward.
Science, technology and innovation are among the driving forces for development in the new era. To adapt to the rapid changes in the national and international context, especially the Fourth Industrial Revolution which is taking place more and more strongly, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that we need to focus on improving production capacity in high-level industries and fields.
The Minister emphasized a number of fundamental industries, spearhead industries, emerging industries, and supporting industries, gradually becoming self-reliant in science and technology to proactively and effectively participate in the global value chain.
The direction has been outlined, from the position and strength of 40 years of renovation, now is the time to accelerate, break through and enter a new era with great responsibility. As General Secretary To Lam pointed out, "the country in historical times needs high will and determination, and needs to have historic decisions."
With innovative thinking, decisive action, breakthrough solutions, creativity..., we can completely realize our aspirations in the new era. More than ever, this is the time to promote the spirit of solidarity, unity, consensus, "dare to speak, dare to think, dare to do, dare to break through for the common good"./.
