In 1982, the People's Committee of Nghe Tinh province announced the decision to establish the "Nghe Tinh Ethnic Minority High School". In 1983, the school changed its name to "Nghe Tinh Ethnic Minority High School". In the 1984-1985 school year, the opening ceremony of the first school year became a milestone in the journey of lighting up the dreams of generations of students in the highlands of Nghe An. In 1991, after the separation of Nghe Tinh province, the People's Committee of Nghe An province decided to change the school's name to "Nghe An Ethnic Minority Boarding High School".

Over the past 40 years, generations of school staff and teachers have worked hard to care for and educate ethnic minority students in Nghe An. In the 2023-2024 school year alone, the school's average high school graduation exam score ranked 4th in the province. From this school, more than 4,200 out of nearly 5,000 high school graduates have continued to study at colleges and universities. Many former students have grown up, worked in various fields and contributed to the socio-economic development of the locality and the country. In recognition of its outstanding achievements, the school was honored to receive the Third, Second and First Class Labor Medals from the President.

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its establishment, the school was honored to receive the noble award - the Third Class Labor Medal (second time) signed by the President. This is the motivation for Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School to join hands to build itself into a high-quality key school, worthy of the expectations of the Party Committee, Government and people of the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long appreciated and acknowledged the contributions of Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School to the education and training of the province; especially the quality human resources for ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Nghe An. Many of the students have become leaders and key officials at all levels. Contributing to this long list of achievements are the efforts of many generations of teachers, who have devoted all their love and responsibility, treating the children of ethnic minorities in the highlands as their own children.

Congratulating and praising the achievements of generations of teachers and students of Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School who have strived and achieved over the past 40 years, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long hopes that teachers and students will promote the rich tradition, continue to bring the school to a new level of development, in line with the educational requirements in the current period and reach the level of international integration. To achieve this goal, Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School must continue to effectively implement the policy "Each teacher is a model of morality, self-study and creativity".
