Drone Photo Awards is part of the prestigious Siena International Photo Awards, which was first held in 2015 in Italy. Works at the Drone Photo Awards are required to be taken from devices such as drones, paragliders, hot air balloons or helicopters.
In 2023, the competition attracted thousands of entries from professional and amateur photographers from around the world in 7 photo categories, a photo series category and a video category.
The results of the Drone Photo Awards were announced in mid-June 2023, with 4 Vietnamese photos in the single photo category being among the best photos (highly commended and commended). All winning photos and videos and those in the top 10 will be displayed and shown at the Above Us Only Sky exhibition at the Saint Galgano monastery in Tuscany, Italy, from July 8 to November 9, 2023.
Photographer Pham Huy Trung's photo won an encouragement prize in the Wildlife category, capturing two Bryde's whales hunting together in August 2022 in the De Gi sea, a pristine destination in Cat Khanh commune, Phu Cat district, more than 40 km from Quy Nhon city.
The Return by author Le Chi Trung was highly appreciated in the People category. He said the photo was taken in the lower reaches of Ky Lo River, Phu Yen, on low tide days, after catching fish, people followed the shallow water to return home in the afternoon sunlight, creating a picture of a peaceful life. "Once stopping at the wooden bridge, I used a flycam to observe the overall scene and was surprised to discover the sandbanks along the river, especially the winding water with many strange shapes," Mr. Le Chi Trung shared.
The photo "Bang Dong" by Nguyen Sanh Quoc Huy in the People category, captures women carrying reed grass back after harvesting in Thang Binh district, Quang Nam.
The tornado of ducks in the People category was taken by author Cao Ky Nhan at Tra O lagoon, Phu My district, Binh Dinh. The lagoon covers an area of about 1,200 hectares, has a high level of biodiversity and abundant aquatic resources, contributing to stabilizing the livelihoods of the community living around the lagoon. "People raise thousands of ducks, feeding them twice a day, morning and afternoon. When the owner calls, the flock of ducks will gather and wait for food. Then, they will run around the farmer, like a tornado," Nhan shared.
In the Series category, photographer Cao Ky Nhan also had 2 sets of 17 photos highly appreciated by the jury, including the set of photos Colors of Vietnam , depicting the beauty of diverse and colorful Vietnamese landscapes and craft villages on the S-shaped strip of land. The flood season in the Northern highlands around May - June is a tourist specialty, attracting tourists and photographers to come and admire. Some notable flood season destinations in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai are Sang Ma Sao (photo), Muong Hum and Den Sang.
Photo of Fish Sauce Making in Mui Ne, Binh Thuan by photographer Cao Ky Nhan. This profession has been associated with the people of Phan Thiet since ancient times, and is still preserved and developed to this day.
