The 2023-2024 school year is the fourth year of implementing the innovation of general education programs and textbooks. This year, the 2018 general education program is implemented for grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11. Grades 5, 9, and 12 continue to study the 2006 general education program; in particular, some schools in grade 9 teach according to the new school model (VNEN).
Implementing many programs at the same time, before each new school year, the issue of ensuring textbooks for teaching and learning in general and serving the roadmap for implementing the new general education program in particular is of interest to the education and training sector.
Staff at Dong Ho 3 Bookstore, 3/2 Street, Rach Gia City (Kien Giang) pack textbooks to supply to students at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year.
According to Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang province Tran Quang Bao, to ensure that students buy the right and sufficient textbooks for their studies, the Department of Education and Training assigned schools to notify parents to register to buy textbooks through the school on a voluntary basis.
The school is the location where the supplier delivers the books, then the school distributes them to parents. The price of the books to students is guaranteed to be the correct cover price, and parents do not have to pay shipping costs.
“Parents only need to register with the school, when the books are available, the school will notify the parents to come and receive them. The Department of Education and Training ensures that there is no shortage of books for parents who register to buy books through the school. For students who do not register to buy books through the school, the education and training sector cannot guarantee because whether there are enough books or not depends on the quantity that the bookstore gets,” said comrade Tran Quang Bao.
Comrade Tran Quang Bao said that the Department of Education and Training requested Kien Giang Book and School Equipment Joint Stock Company to have a reserve of books to meet the needs of students who want to buy books at bookstores that are not registered through schools.
Kien Giang School Equipment and Books Joint Stock Company is one of the units supplying textbooks to units and schools in the province. According to Mr. Lam Van Nguyen Huy - Director of Kien Giang School Equipment and Books Joint Stock Company, the company is committed to the Department of Education and Training to provide sufficient and timely textbooks, so that students do not lack textbooks before the new school year begins. After receiving registrations from units and education and training departments of districts and cities, the company packages books according to the needs of schools and delivers them to their locations.
“The company has been rushing to distribute books to schools that have ordered them, ensuring that by the start of the new school year, no student will be short of books due to the company’s slow or insufficient supply. The company’s bookstores, including Dong Ho 1, Dong Ho 2, Dong Ho 3 and Dong Ho Giong Rieng, provide enough textbooks. If parents do not order books through the school, they can buy them at the bookstores,” said Mr. Lam Van Nguyen Huy.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Hung - Principal of Nguyen Ba Ngoc Primary School (Rach Gia City) said that at the end of the 2022-2023 school year, homeroom teachers of grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 will notify parents to register to buy books for the new school year on a voluntary basis to ensure that parents buy the right and enough books, avoiding buying the wrong books or buying pirated books.
“To save costs for parents, the school does not order all exercise books because there are some subjects that do not require exercise books. Up to now, students in grades 2, 3, and 5 have enough books. Students in grade 4 have basically enough, only a few books are missing. The supplier is committed to distributing enough books before the new school year begins,” said Mr. Nguyen Trong Hung.
The Department of Education and Training coordinates with relevant agencies and suppliers to ensure textbooks and learning materials are sold at the listed prices. For students in difficult circumstances, the Department of Education and Training coordinates with publishers to donate textbooks so that they can go to school.
