Primary school accountant prosecuted for embezzling over 400 million VND

On July 19, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Duy, Principal of Phong Tan Primary School (Gia Rai Town, Bac Lieu) confirmed that the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Rai Town Police has issued a decision to prosecute Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhi (37 years old, accountant of Phong Tan Primary School) to investigate the act of embezzlement of property.

Defendant Nguyen Hong Nhi was released on bail to serve the investigation.

According to Mr. Duy, Ms. Nhi embezzled more than 400 million VND from the school. Mr. Duy borrowed money from many people and voluntarily paid money to remedy the consequences on behalf of Ms. Nhi because he was afraid of being held responsible as the leader.

Previously, on December 27, 2022, the State Treasury of Gia Rai Town issued a notice that Phong Tan Primary School did not have enough funds to pay December 2022 salaries to cadres, teachers, and employees, due to withdrawing money beyond the budget.

After receiving the information, the Department of Education and Training of Gia Rai Town coordinated with the People's Committee of Phong Tan Commune to work with Phong Tan Primary School. At the meeting, Ms. Nhi said that due to transferring the wrong documents many times, the expenditure exceeded the budget and promised to return the money to have enough funds to pay the salary for December 2022 for the school's staff, teachers and employees.

However, when the leaders of the Department of Education and Training checked, they discovered that the transferred documents were fake documents, meaning that Ms. Nhi had transferred them for free to get the money. After that, the Department of Education and Training asked for the opinion of the People's Committee of Gia Rai Town to transfer the case to the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Rai Town Police for investigation and clarification.

Through investigation, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Rai Town Police decided to prosecute Nguyen Hong Nhi to investigate the act of embezzlement of property.
