On the evening of February 29, at Ho Guom Theater, Hanoi, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) held the launching ceremony of Vietnam Ao Dai Week to contribute to honoring the value of Ao Dai in life, culture and society.
The event was held to celebrate the 114th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8, 1910 - March 8, 2024), the 1984th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising, while also arousing love, pride, and responsibility to preserve and promote the value of Ao Dai heritage and promote Vietnamese culture, country, and people to many domestic and international friends.

Attending the event were Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and more than 700 delegates including leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, ministries, branches, the Fatherland Front, and organizations; Standing members of the Presidium, leaders of departments and units of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, affiliated units and member organizations; former leaders of the Central Committee of the Union, members of the Central Executive Committee of the Union (block of ministries and branches); representatives of the leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Committee, Department of Culture, Sports, and the Fatherland Front of Hanoi; Ambassadors of countries, representatives of international organizations; female entrepreneurs and artists.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga said that since 2019, the Vietnam Women's Union has initiated and coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize events with the theme "Ao Dai - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage".
Since then, even during the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ao Dai Week has been held regularly every year in the first week of March.
Many activities to honor Vietnamese Ao Dai have been implemented enthusiastically, diversely, and widely across the country such as: Ao Dai photo contests, Ao Dai value discovery contests, large-scale performances and parades to set Vietnam Guinness records.

Especially meaningful activities such as: giving Ao Dai to poor women, women in difficult circumstances by Women's Unions in many localities; free online course "Cutting and designing Ao Dai" for nearly 8,500 students nationwide organized by designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam in collaboration with the Central Association; Ao Dai design campaign "Proud of Vietnamese Ao Dai"...
In addition, sectors and localities also have many activities to affirm the ao dai as a cultural heritage of Vietnam, typically Thua Thien Hue province approved the project "Hue - Capital of Ao Dai" to complete the dossier on the Ao Dai tailoring profession and the traditional custom of using Ao Dai in Hue to submit to UNESCO for consideration and recognition as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Ms. Ha Thi Nga emphasized: "Through these practical activities, the Vietnam Women's Union wishes to contribute to inspiring and spreading meaningful, positive messages about love, national pride, about the country, people and Vietnamese ao dai to the general public. At the same time, contributing to the values of ao dai to be soon recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage and further as a world cultural heritage.
With that profound meaning, let's spread the image of Ao Dai widely together, to contribute to preserving and promoting the unique and rich cultural values of the Vietnamese people."

Within the framework of the event, the art program “The Fragrance of Vietnamese Ao Dai” creates a special highlight with the combination of music, dance and sound technology, 3D screen lighting and visual effects; between fashion and cultural art, thereby contributing to affirming that Ao Dai has become a fashion costume closely associated with the lives of people everywhere in the world.
Here, the Ao Dai collections are presented with three themes (Pride of Vietnamese Ao Dai, Soul of Vietnamese Ao Dai and Quintessence of Vietnamese Ao Dai), by designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam and more than 50 excellent designers nationwide representing nearly 8,500 students from the program "Cutting and Designing Ao Dai" organized by the Association in 2023.
These Ao Dai collections performed at the show were inspired by famous heritages, majestic natural landscapes of Vietnam, national flags and special diplomatic marks between Vietnam and countries around the world.

In particular, the program also featured the wives of Ambassadors from the United States, Armenia, Morocco, Czech Republic and Indonesia on stage, performing with beauty queens, supermodels, beauties and professional artists, singers and dancers from all over the country.
The Vietnam Women's Union launched the Vietnam Ao Dai Week 2024 from March 1-8 nationwide. Accordingly, the Women's Unions of provinces/cities, affiliated units, members, women, female civil servants, and public employees in localities, agencies, units, and workplaces responded to the event with creative, practical, and specific activities; wearing Ao Dai during working days in accordance with conditions and occupational characteristics from March 1-8, focusing on March 8. At the same time, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union also requested the Women's Unions of provinces/cities, affiliated units, and sectors to use the communication channels of the sector and units to increase propaganda and promotion before, during and after the organization of activities to affirm and honor the value of Ao Dai - Vietnam's cultural heritage in social life. On the Fanpage of the Vietnam Women's Union, a photo album "Ao Dai in all regions of the country" was created, posting colorful, unique and rich images of Ao Dai by the Women's Unions of provinces and cities, and receiving many positive interactions, leaving an impression on the public. |
