Pepper prices today, March 17, 2025, in the domestic market are stable in key localities, trading from 157,500 - 159,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper price today in Gia Lai is at 158,000 VND/kg.
Pepper prices today in the provinces of Dong Nai (157,500 VND/kg); Dak Lak (159,000 VND/kg); Dak Nong (159,000 VND/kg); Ba Ria - Vung Tau (158,000 VND/kg) and Binh Phuoc (158,000 VND/kg).
Thus, pepper prices today are stable in key growing areas. The highest pepper price is at 159,000 VND/kg.
Commenting on the market this week, experts said that increased supply from the ongoing harvest pushed the market down. Last week, pepper prices increased for 3 consecutive days, but just one sharp drop at the end of the week caused the market to lose the 160,000 VND/kg mark.
Taking into account the current harvest, the impact of climate change in 2024 will somewhat affect pepper production by farmers. However, some areas of the provinces have recorded favorable weather conditions.
Dak Nong is the largest and most important pepper producing area in Vietnam, with about 40% of the area harvested. Dak Lak province is second, accounting for 30% of the total pepper area of the country, with about 5-10% harvested.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) believes that this year will continue to be a prosperous year for the pepper industry. Specifically, global pepper output is likely to continue to decline, while consumption demand remains stable.
There are three main reasons that lead VPSA to this conclusion. First, Vietnam's pepper processing technology has reached the standards of the world market in general. Second, Vietnam's pepper output is relatively stable. Finally, productivity. Although the area is only 15% of coffee and 12% of rubber, pepper contributes 23% of coffee export value (5.6 billion USD) and 38% of rubber value (3.4 billion USD).
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) commented that in the coming time, with the world pepper supply expected to increase, while demand is weak, it may cause pressure to reduce prices.
According to data from the Customs Department, Vietnam's pepper exports in February reached 14.3 thousand tons, worth 97.2 million USD, up 10.7% in volume and 11% in value compared to January 2025; up 7.2% in volume and 79.1% in value compared to February 2024.
In the first two months of 2025, Vietnam's pepper exports reached 27.2 thousand tons, worth 184.4 million USD, down 11.6% in volume but up 48.5% in value over the same period in 2024.
In February, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper reached 6,774 USD/ton, up 0.3% compared to January 2025 and up 67.1% compared to February 2024. In the first two months of 2025, the average export price of Vietnam's pepper reached 6,763 USD/ton, up 68% over the same period in 2024.
