Along the South Central Coast, there are some of the most beautiful and greenest coastal villages in the country, captivating people. These “super green” coastal villages are creating new fortunes for coastal communities, helping to promote the image, people, and land of Vietnam to the world.
Nhon Hai coral village belongs to Nhon Hai peninsula commune, Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province, nestled between Phuong Mai mountain range stretching along the coast, where there is a strange, bare island called Hon Kho. True to its name, Hon Kho is dry all year round, but this seemingly lifeless place is becoming the "gold and silver island" of nearly 5,700 coastal residents.
Sitting and watching each wave hitting the shore, Mrs. Tran Thi Bay (63 years old, living in Nhon Hai peninsula commune) kept admiring: It's strange, the surface of the island is dry, there are no trees to grow, but at the bottom of the island, there are countless fish and shrimp, such as: mackerel, lobster, crab, blue crab... This island's tip has "given birth to gold, given birth to silver" for the whole village to be full and warm. During the storm season, the body and shoulders of the island protect the village from the rain and wind...
In recent years, Hon Kho has become an attractive destination for tourists because of its wild and peaceful beauty. During the dry season, especially in May and June every year, in the seabed of the island, aquatic life, seaweed, and coral begin to recover, creating shimmering yellow-green patches on the seabed.
In the middle of the seaweed field, schools of flying fish, shrimps and squids play a role in making the whole sea area charming and captivating to tourists. At that time, tourists flock here, and the villagers are always busy - some provide services, some drive canoes to take tourists diving to see corals and seaweed fields, some sell drinks, open restaurants, drive motorbike taxis... Everyone has a good income.
Mr. Nguyen Ton Xuan Sang, Director of Nhon Hai Service, Tourism and Aquaculture Cooperative, shared: Thanks to the development of community tourism, people's awareness of the environment is now very good. They are very responsible for the landscape, ecology and marine life. The village is preserving the turtle nesting ground and about 13.8 hectares of coral reefs that have recovered very well as a spawning ground for crabs and fish.
Quy Nhon City also has Nhon Ly coastal village (Nhon Ly commune) famous for its two "green gems" Eo Gio and Ky Co that captivate tourists. Going further afield, Hoai Hai coastal village, Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province, stands out for its scenery of two mountain ranges stretching out to the sea like two wild buffaloes resting.
Or the ancient village of Go Co, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province, "located" in the middle of the ancient Sa Huynh cultural sedimentary area. In 2017, the ancient sea village of Go Co - the core of Sa Huynh culture, applied the model of community tourism cooperative based on the development of humanistic and humane values.
Going into the interior, from Quy Nhon City, along the beautiful coastal road Quy Nhon - Song Cau connecting the two provinces of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen, we arrived at Yen village, An Hoa Hai commune, Tuy An district, Phu Yen, which owns the Hon Yen coral reef complex - the most beautiful place to see coral in Vietnam, recognized as a national scenic relic.
Mr. Truong Tan Lai, a resident of the village, said that in the past few years, the Global Environment Fund has sponsored 3.2 billion VND to help the village implement a project to enhance community capacity in protecting Hon Yen coral reef. The village established a coral protection team, a basket boat team, a service - tour guide team and an environmental team. All work together to protect the environment, preserve the landscape, especially the 12.7ha coral reef area to "enjoy the blessings" from Mother Nature, from the smokeless industry - green tourism, helping people's lives become more and more fulfilled and happy!
