"The high price of green mangosteen is good for growers. Pruning green fruit at a reasonable level will help the tree become healthier because it has to grow less fruit, and will not affect next year's crop," said Professor Hau.

But to be so expensive that it can be sold for over 100,000 VND per kilo of green fruit with the skin on and over 500,000 VND per kilo of green fruit with the skin off is something that mangosteen growers "could never have dreamed of" selling for such a high price.

Of course, if this is a phenomenon "made famous" by the media, then the "hot" period probably won't last long. But it's good for a while.
