At the 2025 university admissions conference held on the morning of March 29 in Hai Phong City, the Ministry of Education and Training recommended that universities should consider eliminating ineffective admission methods.

According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, one of the problems of the 2024 university admission season is that there are too many admission methods, while only a few methods are really useful for schools in admission.

Through analysis of the 2024 regular university admission results, it shows that over 80% of candidates are admitted based on the results of the high school graduation exam and high school academic results (transcripts). Specifically, considering the results of the high school graduation exam accounts for 52.18%; considering the transcripts accounts for 27.86%.

The admission results of other methods are as follows: capacity assessment exams, thinking assessment 3.36%; direct admission according to the university's project 1.96%; combined admission between direct admission according to the project and other methods 1.21%; other methods (including 12 methods) 13.32%.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung said: "The fact that schools offer too many admission methods causes information confusion for candidates. In reality, there are many methods that do not exist, or very few candidates register for admission. There are admission methods that in the entire system, the number of candidates admitted by this method is only 2 digits (ie only a few dozen candidates - PV)".

Faced with the above reality, Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung recommended that universities should consider choosing admission methods when planning to organize admissions in the 2025 university entrance exam.

"Ineffective admission methods should be eliminated. There needs to be an admission plan that ensures fairness among admission methods: no quota allocation based on admission methods or admission combinations; equivalent admission scores," said Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung.
