Opening of National Tourism Year 2025: "Hue

(Fatherland) - On the evening of March 25, at the stage on the banks of the Perfume River, the People's Committee of Hue City in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the Opening Ceremony of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 with the theme "Hue - Ancient Capital, New Opportunities".

Attending the opening ceremony were: Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, Standing member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat; Mai Van Chinh, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister; Vu Hong Thanh, Party Central Committee member, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; Nguyen Van Hung, Party Central Committee member, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Steering Committee for the National Tourism Year.

In addition, there were also delegates leading ministries, departments, and central agencies, members of the Steering Committee for National Tourism Year - Hue 2025; leaders of Hue City; leaders of several provinces and cities across the country; international visitors... and a large number of people and tourists.

In his opening speech, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that the National Tourism Year 2025 took place with many exciting activities in Hue City and many provinces/cities across the country, in the direction of "combining strengths, multiplying advantages, and unleashing success". In particular, it aims to organize many practical activities that have the power to spread response events such as culture - tourism weeks, culinary festivals, art activities "diverse in form - unique in content", "transforming the values of cultural assets, cultural industries into resources and driving forces for tourism development". With a new spirit, new momentum, and deep resonance from the cultural traditions and thousands of years of civilization of the nation, it deeply demonstrates the will and aspiration for strong and prosperous development of the country in the new era.

According to Minister Nguyen Van Hung, in the first two months of the year and in the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam tourism welcomed over 4 million international visitors, an increase of 30% over the same period in 2024, serving nearly 30 million domestic visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at nearly 200 trillion VND. This is a positive signal, affirming Vietnam's attractiveness on the world tourism map.

To achieve the goal of welcoming 22-23 million international visitors and serving 120-130 million domestic tourists by 2025, making Vietnam an attractive destination for cultural, sports and tourism exchanges; Contributing to the successful implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Plan with a growth target of 8% or more, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been and will proactively coordinate regularly and closely with ministries, branches, Hue City and provinces/cities, and the business community to focus on a number of major tasks such as: Early formation of a smart tourism ecosystem associated with comprehensive digital transformation; Strengthening connectivity, support and "taking the tourist experience as the center".

In addition, launching the emulation movement "Professional service, attentive service, civilized behavior, clean green environment", bringing "Vietnam tourism smile"; Developing diverse and unique tourism products and services based on different potentials, associated with promoting heritage values and national cultural identity in line with new trends: high-end resort tourism, health care tourism, agricultural tourism and regional specific products; Completing the transport infrastructure connecting destinations.

In addition, focus on promoting key campaigns. Make the most of the power of communication, mobilize the cooperation of diplomatic missions in other countries, communicate through social networks; Promote bilateral tourism cooperation, cooperation through international organizations in the field of tourism.

Tourism becomes a bright spot of the economy

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh said: The Opening Ceremony of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 is the opening event for a series of cultural, sports and tourism activities taking place across provinces and cities across the country, promising to turn Hue into a tourism and cultural center of Vietnam and the region, contributing to promoting, inspiring pride, creating motivation to promote the tourism industry to recover and develop quickly and sustainably.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, our Party and State always pay attention to and direct the tourism industry to make the best use of human, cultural and natural potential, advantages of the sea and islands, and existing strengths to develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector. Along with the political determination of many localities, the efforts of tourism businesses have created internal growth and recovery of Vietnam's tourism industry, surpassing expectations in both quantity and quality.

In just two years 2023 and 2024, Vietnam tourism has recovered spectacularly, far exceeding the planned target and becoming one of the bright spots of the economy. Vietnam is the fourth largest destination in ASEAN in terms of the number of visitors and total tourism revenue. This is not only a signal of a strong recovery but also a testament to the sustainable appeal of Vietnam tourism on the world map...

The National Tourism Year has been held in rotation in localities since 2003 and is a typical cultural, economic, social and tourism event on a national and international scale. It is an important opportunity to introduce and promote Vietnam's cultural values, natural resources and unique tourism products, attract international tourists and deeply participate in the global tourism chain.

Through 22 editions, Hue has been honored to be chosen twice to host the National Tourism Year (2012 and 2025). This is not only a recognition of the position of this land on the tourism map of Vietnam and the world, but also demonstrates the attention and responsibility of the Party, State and Central agencies towards Hue City in socio-economic development in general and tourism development in particular.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that Vietnam is firmly entering a new era, when tourism is not only an experience, but also a bridge of friendship, cooperation and sustainable development. Resolution No. 08/2017 of the Politburo clearly stated that "Vietnam's tourism industry has developed strongly, but there are still many potential advantages, requiring us to constantly strive and be creative". In the coming time, the tourism industry needs to thoroughly grasp the direction of the Prime Minister in Directive No. 08/CT-TTg dated February 23, 2024 on comprehensive, fast and sustainable tourism development with the motto "Unique products - Professional services - Convenient and simple procedures - Reasonable prices - Green, clean and beautiful environment - Safe, civilized and friendly destinations".

On the occasion of the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year, the Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, sectors, Hue City and localities across the country to continue promoting the achievements, strive to overcome difficulties and challenges, and proactively continue to coordinate to effectively carry out tasks.

At the ceremony, locals and tourists enjoyed an art program with the theme "Confession of the River". The program consisted of 3 chapters: Confession of the River "Legend of a River"; Converging Rivers; New Flow of the Rivers.

With the participation of more than 800 actors, singers, and artists, the program demonstrated tangible and intangible cultural values, resources, and unique tourism products of Vietnam. In particular, it highlighted the cultural heritage of Hue, from the heritage of Hue singing, traditional Hue Royal art, Hue cuisine, etc. At the same time, it opened a bridge to international integration with performances by art troupes from China and Korea.

By integrating many unique and novel activities such as light shows using drone light, electronic water drums, panoramic water music, flying dragons, flying parachutes, high-altitude fireworks... the unique art program has left many impressions in the hearts of locals and tourists.

National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 has more than 160 activities. Of which, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and central agencies organize 8 activities, Hue City organizes 62 activities and provinces and cities in the country organize 102 response activities.

Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong said that hosting the National Tourism Year 2025 is an opportunity for Hue to introduce its cultural, historical and natural beauty to domestic and foreign tourists. This is not only a great honor when Hue City has just officially become a centrally-governed city, but also a strong motivation for Hue to continue to preserve, honor and spread traditional cultural values.

The locality is committed to organizing a variety of activities, from special art programs recreating royal culture, Ao Dai festivals, Hue culinary festivals to sports events, international seminars on conservation and sustainable tourism development. In particular, the series of events of the 4-Season Festival taking place in 2025 will be the highlight, contributing to creating a colorful cultural picture, making Hue an attractive destination.
