The moments of the young man baking cakes for customers were shared on social networks, leaving many people in awe. For that reason, his bakery has been unbelievably busy these past few days, and he doesn’t even have time to chat with customers in the afternoon.

Diligently stick with the profession

Mr. Dinh Trong Hien (33 years old, from Thanh Hoa) has been studying and working in Ho Chi Minh City for more than ten years. The young man graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and worked as a construction worker for a while, selling banh bo on the street with an uncle to earn money to support his life. It was his uncle who "showed the way" for him to learn more secrets and skills in making cakes and improving his profession to make a living. For the past 7 years, he decided to rent a space to open a bakery and has been attached to it until now.

Mr. Hien makes cakes every day, serving customers who buy directly and online.

“In the past, I used to pour and bake cakes with charcoal, but now I have switched to electricity to save time and effort. It took me about 10 years to master each step of making cakes and be as quick as everyone else,” said Mr. Hien.

According to the owner, many customers saw him pouring the cake quickly and wondered why he had to do it that way. He explained that this was a traditional, handmade cake and if he did it slowly, the cake would burn.

Many people say that he bakes cakes like he practices kung fu.

“Last year, I made my own electric oven to replace the wood-fired oven. When I light the oven with charcoal, it gets very hot, and I often get dehydrated. I feel very happy to have made the oven because the hard work has been significantly reduced. Before, if someone ordered about 40 cakes on the app, I couldn't make them in time and had to cancel the order. Now, with electric ovens, I can bake multiple ovens at the same time, making 40 cakes simply, baking in just 20 minutes. Using charcoal takes 2 hours, not enough to meet customer demand,” Mr. Hien shared.

Work without rest

Mr. Hien makes up to 11 types of handmade cakes, each using a different type of flour and potatoes. For cassava cakes, he has to wake up at 4am to boil the potatoes before grinding and pounding them. Every morning he needs a new source of energy before starting a busy day, making cakes without stopping.

Each cake he made very quickly, less than 30 seconds.

“This baking job requires standing and baking very hot, so you have to know how to create joy while creating each cake for customers. My biggest difficulty right now is not being able to hire someone to make it, making cakes by hand requires meticulousness and precision in every step. The hardest part is still the baking step, unlike other types of cakes, you just need to put them in the oven and press a button. The baker has to watch to see if the cake is golden and soft enough before taking it out of the oven,” Hien said.

In addition to selling directly, he registered to sell online and unexpectedly received great support from everyone. Although baking cakes is hard work, the young man always has a bright, bright smile and happily shares every time someone asks him a question. Although the cakes are made quickly, each one is evenly cooked, soft, and fragrant. Every day, customers come to the shop to buy, sometimes he has to wait until 5pm to have lunch.

Ms. Vu Thi Oanh (27 years old), Mr. Hien's wife, said that her husband was in charge of baking the cakes while she sold them to customers. She saw that he loved his job very much, tried hard without stopping or complaining about being tired. That was also a big motivation for her to persevere and help her husband sell the cakes all this time.

Mr. Hien plans to open more branches.

“There are times when he is tired but still tries to work so that customers do not feel disappointed every time they come to the shop. Being supported by customers is a great happiness for my husband and I, the whole family will try to open more establishments,” Ms. Oanh shared.

Each cake is meticulously poured by Mr. Hien.

Mr. Bui Duc Trung (26 years old, living in Tan Binh District) stopped by the shop to buy bread for lunch. Having eaten here once and found it delicious, he decided to come back to buy more. “I saw the owner personally making the bread. It was very fast, clean, and the bread was just cooked and soft. He must have been making it for a long time to be able to do each step so precisely,” Mr. Trung shared.

Every day, Mr. Hien sells from 6am to 10pm. He said he will try to recruit more people, share his baking methods, and from there open more bakeries to serve the needs of customers in many places.
