The Vietnam Bakery Cup 2024, an international culinary talent competition in Vietnam, took place in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City from December 11, attracting the participation of more than 500 baking experts from all over the world, including Vietnam, China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, etc. As the first international standard baking competition in Vietnam, The Vietnam Bakery Cup 2024 awards are evaluated according to the WorldChefs (World Association of Chefs Associations) scale. This has raised the level of the competition and created new challenges for the contestants. The competition includes Vietnamese and international judges with experience in judging competitions at home and abroad.
The organizers hope that the competition will bring talented Vietnamese chefs the opportunity to exchange international experiences and professional skills. In particular, it will build a strong Vietnamese bakery ecosystem in the future, reaching international standards, and stimulating Vietnamese culinary tourism.
Throughout 23 categories in 4 days from December 11-14, 2024, more than 200 unique cake works, including direct competition categories and exhibition categories, attracted the attention of the public and experts. Outstanding among them was the work "Two sides of life" by a Vietnamese author, registered in the Sugar/Maripan Art Cake category. With a meaningful story, tight composition, delicate shapes and harmonious colors, the work excellently won 100 absolute points from the Jury.
The work is set in the Smurf Village in the famous French and Belgian comic series - a peaceful world with blue skies, lush vegetation and lovely mushroom houses. However, behind that peaceful appearance lies a harsh truth of life - the lurking evil, expressed through the image of Gargamel. The story is drawn on a 50x50cm cake using a unique combination of many baking materials such as fondant, isomalt, rice paper...
Ms. Le Kieu Oanh - Vice President of the Vietnam Bakery Association expressed her pride when the work of the Vietnamese contestant excellently achieved 100 absolute points - a rare achievement in international and continental baking competitions. She emphasized that in all categories of the competition, only this work achieved a perfect score. To achieve this score, the work must fully meet the criteria of meaningful story, creative presentation, sophisticated technique, etc.
“I have to call it a perfect masterpiece of cake art, a beautiful picture from the story, layout to color. Through the skillful hands of the author, a vivid story has been recreated through the delicate lines on the cake,” Ms. Oanh shared.
The bakery has made a splash with many prestigious awards.
With its unique beauty, the work “Two sides of life” quickly became the center of attention, attracting public attention. According to research, the work is the result of MaDi Bakery’s day and night creative efforts for 3 consecutive months, meticulously and carefully executed by author Vo Thi Ha Hai from the idea stage to the completion process.
Through the work, the author wants to convey the message: “Life is always a balance between light and darkness, between happiness and hardship. We need to be grateful for every peaceful moment as well as learn how to face and overcome challenges.”
According to the representative of the Vietnam Bakery Association, the Gold Award with 100 absolute points "Two sides of life" at The Vietnam Bakery Cup 2024 is not only a recognition of the efforts, dedication and creativity of the MaDi Bakery team but also contributes to raising the position of the Vietnamese bakery industry on the international culinary map in general and the continent in particular.
