The death toll from a stampede at a stadium in El Salvador is rising. Initial reports from the AP said two people were in critical condition and dozens were injured as fans pushed their way into the stands.
Hours later, sources reported nine deaths. The latest figure given by Reuters is 12 deaths.

The incident occurred on the evening of May 20 at the Cuscatlan Stadium in San Salvador, El Salvador - a stadium with a capacity of more than 44,000 people. The match between Alianza and Deportivo FAS in the quarter-finals of the El Salvador National Cup was the center of attention for fans.
"The El Salvador Football Federation expresses its deep regret for the events that occurred at the Cuscatlan Stadium. We extend our condolences to the relatives of all the victims of this incident," the El Salvador Football Federation said in a statement. The agency confirmed that it was preparing a report and would coordinate with the authorities to resolve the incident.
