Only 3 teams were eliminated, U.17 Vietnam decided their own place in the World Cup
According to CNN Indonesia, only 3 teams were eliminated early after the second round of the group stage of the AFC U17 Championship: China, Thailand (Group A) and Afghanistan (Group C). Meanwhile, surprisingly, the Vietnam U17 team excellently held off the extremely strong opponent and the reigning U17 champion Japan with a score of 1-1 in Group B on April 7, keeping the hope of winning a ticket to the World Cup until the last match of the group stage.

The second round of the group stage of the AFC U-17 Championship will also see matches in Group D take place on April 8, including the match between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea U-17 and Tajikistan U-17 and the match between Oman U-17 and Iran U-17. It is likely that another team will be eliminated, possibly the Oman U-17 team (0 points) if they continue to lose to Iran, CNN Indonesia reported.
"However, the biggest drama is taking place in Group B, when all 4 teams, U.17 Japan (4 points), UAE (3 points), U.17 Vietnam (2 points, with 2 draws) and Australia (1 point, with 1 draw and 1 loss), still have a chance to continue.
The U.17 Vietnam team will decide their own chances with a direct match against the U.17 UAE in the final round (at 10 p.m. on April 10). If they win, the young Vietnamese team, along with Indonesia, will be the two best representatives of Southeast Asia to advance to the knockout round and officially qualify for the 2025 U.17 World Cup finals in Qatar in November later this year," CNN Indonesia assessed.
Indonesian newspapers also highly appreciated the two performances of the Vietnam U.17 team with draws against strong opponents such as Australia and Japan both with the same score of 1-1, and especially the equalizers all happened at important moments of the match.
As in the draw with U.17 Australia with a goal right at the beginning of the second half, and the draw with Japan with an equalizer in extra time. It shows that the young Vietnamese team knows how to make the opponent passive and surprised at the most crucial moments of the match.

U.17 Indonesia still has not finished its mission
According to Mr. Erick Thohir, President of PSSI: "I would like to congratulate the Indonesian U.17 team. The victory over Yemen (with a score of 4-1) in the second match of the U.17 Asian Cup helped us quickly qualify for the quarterfinals and also secure a place at the 2025 U.17 World Cup in Qatar.
But remember, the battle is not over yet. The players and coaching staff must refocus for the next match in the tournament to achieve the best results."
In the final match of Group C on April 11, U.17 Indonesia will meet U.17 Afghanistan, they still need to win 1 more point to secure the top spot. Afghanistan was eliminated after losing to U.17 Korea with a score of 0-6 on April 8. Meanwhile, U.17 Korea will compete with Yemen (both teams have 3 points) to compete for the remaining ticket to the next round and a place at the World Cup.
This is the second time the Indonesian U.17 team has won a ticket to the U.17 World Cup after the first time in 2023 as the host team.
