Sir Bobby Charlton, one of England's greatest players, played 106 times for England and scored 49 goals. He passed away on October 21 at the age of 86.

He was part of the England team that beat West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final at Wembley. In a statement, his family said: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed away peacefully in the early hours of 21 October (local time)." According to the family of Sir Bobby Charlton, the family needs privacy at this time.
Manchester United Football Club said: “The club mourns the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the greatest and most loved players in our club’s history. Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester and the UK, but wherever football is played around the world.”
During his 17-year playing career for Manchester United, he played 758 games and scored 249 goals – both records that stood until Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney surpassed his achievements in 2008 and 2017 respectively. He retired from football in 1976. He joined the Manchester United board of directors in 1984 and remained there for 39 years. He also founded the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation in 2011, which focuses on removing landmines from former war zones.

Footballing figures have paid tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton following his death. World Cup-winning team-mate Geoff Hurst said Charlton was "one of the true greats. We will never forget him and neither will football. A great colleague and friend, he will be sorely missed by the whole country." Gary Lineker said Sir Bobby Charlton was "a truly great footballer and a truly lovely man".
According to Gary Neville, Charlton was "the greatest English footballer and the greatest ambassador for Manchester United". John Terry also said Sir Bobby Charlton was "a great man and a truly wonderful person".
