On March 16, the Houthi forces announced that they had used ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to attack the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and other warships in the US Navy's aircraft carrier group.

However, the Houthi forces did not provide specific evidence of the results of these attacks. This escalation by the Houthis is in response to the recent US airstrikes targeting this force in Yemen that left many people dead.

Meanwhile, a US official, who requested anonymity, said that the US military's F-16 and F-18 fighter jets shot down a total of 11 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Houthi forces in Yemen on March 16.

This information from the US Department of Defense was released right after Houthi announced an attack on the US Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea.

According to the official, the Houthi UAVs that were shot down did not appear near the USS Harry S. Truman - the aircraft carrier that played an important role in US airstrikes against Yemen.

In addition, the US military also tracked a Houthi missile that malfunctioned in flight and fell into the sea off the coast of Yemen. The US military did not take any action because the missile was not considered a threat.

On the same day, the United Nations (UN) issued a statement calling on the US military and Houthi forces in Yemen to “exercise maximum restraint” and end “all military actions” following bloody attacks and threats of retaliation from both sides.

The statement quoted Mr. Stephane Dujarric - spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres - expressing concern about "US attacks targeting areas under Houthi control in Yemen on the night of March 15-16 (local time), which are believed to have caused many deaths and injuries".

The UN “is also concerned by repeated threats by the Houthis to resume attacks on shipping in the Red Sea”.

“Any further escalation risks further exacerbating regional tensions and triggering a cycle of retaliation that could lead to further destabilization of Yemen and the region, as well as posing serious risks to the already dire humanitarian situation in the country,” the UN statement said.
