DNO - On the morning of May 11, the City People's Committee held a conference to review 3 years of implementing the Forestry Development Strategy and the Government's "Planting One Billion Trees" project; summarize forest fire prevention and fighting work in 2023, and deploy tasks for 2024.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and coordination of departments, branches, units and localities in the management, protection, forest fire prevention and fighting and implementation of the forestry development strategy in recent times.
The city has established a Steering Committee to implement the Forestry Development Strategy for the period 2021-2025. Therefore, member sectors need to closely coordinate, promote their roles, and effectively and substantially perform assigned tasks.
Implementing the goal of planting more than 5 million trees according to the Government's project "Planting one billion trees in the period of 2021-2025" in the city is an important task; both ensuring quantity and promoting the effectiveness of forest management and development, contributing to the city's socio-economic development.
The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the city's agricultural sector to develop specific and detailed plans and solutions for implementation in forest management and protection. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinates with departments, branches, sectors and localities to develop plans and implement them as soon as possible, such as legal issues in forest land allocation.
For projects implementing replacement forestation, zoning, especially marking planning for 3 types of forests, the department needs to coordinate and closely review with units and localities to ensure management.

The city's agricultural sector needs to speed up the research and allocation of coastal tree planting such as coconut trees; the city will direct relevant departments, branches and sectors to call for the participation and response of tourism units and businesses in coastal tree planting, aiming to attract people and tourists, creating tourist landscapes.
Departments, branches, sectors, units and localities need to research, deploy and launch a practical, effective and practical Tree Planting Festival; propagate and raise awareness and responsibility for planting and caring for trees in the area; and coordinate effectively in the issue of forest development and tree planting.
At the same time, continue to promote the achievements in forest fire prevention and control, ensure the "4 on-site" motto; professionalize and modernize human resources and means of forest management and protection.
The report at the conference said that after 3 years of implementing the Government's project "Planting one billion trees in the period of 2021-2025", departments, branches and localities have actively organized propaganda, responded to the launching ceremony of the Tree Planting Festival and planted trees and forests with a quantity of more than 1,024 million trees, reaching 35.52% compared to the 3-year plan (nearly 2,884 million trees).
Specifically, 121,570 scattered trees; 902,741 new concentrated trees were planted, equivalent to nearly 561.8 hectares. The total resources to implement the project in 3 years are more than 35.34 billion VND, of which: State budget capital is more than 20.83 billion VND; socialized capital is nearly 14.51 billion VND.
To complete the project's objectives, departments, branches and localities have proactively developed a plan to plant trees and forests in the 2024-2025 period with a total of more than 2,133 million trees; of which more than 1,263 million trees will be planted in concentrated areas, equivalent to 960 hectares, and 870,000 trees will be planted in scattered areas.
Regarding the implementation of the Sustainable Forestry Development Strategy for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030 in the city, after 3 years of implementation (from 2021-2023), the area of concentrated production forest plantation reached more than 4,038 hectares (lower than the average target of 1,800 hectares/year); the area of large timber forest plantation and conversion of small timber forest to large timber reached nearly 423.2 hectares.
The area of protective forests and special-use forests reached 365.35 hectares (lower than the average target of 140 hectares/year); the area of natural forests nurtured and promoted for regeneration was more than 346.8 hectares, lower than the average target of 400 hectares/year. The output of timber exploited from planted forests was 422,120 m3 (higher than the target: 60,000 m3).
The quality of natural forests has increased, with the area of rich forests reaching nearly 18,987 hectares. The area of forests that have been granted FSC certification is 217.23 hectares, reaching 1/5 of the target in the period 2021 - 2025). The forest coverage rate of the whole city in 2021 is 47.17%, in 2022 is 45.5%, in 2023 is 44.77% (lower than the average of 47% set in the strategic goal).

In the work of forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting, in the period of 2021-2023, units and localities organized 1,883 patrols to protect forests, prevent forest fires, inspect and prevent illegal transportation, trading, and purchase of forest products and wild animals in the city; recorded and handled 42 administrative violations of regulations of law on forest protection and development.
Localities have established 19 shock troops; 60 mass groups to protect forests in villages and residential areas near forests and forest edges with a total of 834 members participating. In addition, 586 households have been contracted under the project of paying for forest environmental services of Da Nang city; 26 units stationed in the area and 991 households, forest owners, and those operating in forests and forest edges have signed a commitment to comply with regulations on forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting.
On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the City People's Committee to 5 individuals and 5 collectives with outstanding achievements in implementing the Forestry Development Strategy and the project "Planting one billion trees in the period 2021-2023" in Da Nang city.
