On September 1, the Can Tho City Ornamental Plants Association in coordination with the Can Tho City Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City opened the 9th National Open Orchid Competition and Exhibition in 2024.
This is one of the activities organized by the city on the occasion of National Day September 2. The most new and special point of this year's contest is that the organizers awarded three motorbikes to the winning artists, including a SH Mode motorbike for the gold prize in the red-gold flash denro orchid category, a Vision motorbike for the silver prize winner in the red-gold flash denro orchid category, and a Wave motorbike for the bronze prize, also in the red-gold flash denro orchid category.
According to the organizers, these are awards sponsored by philanthropists, in addition to other cash awards as in previous years.
In the morning of the same day, thousands of artisans and tourists from all over the country came to participate in the orchid contest. There were many types of orchids participating in the festival such as Denro lightning orchid, Catteya orchid, mixed forest orchid...
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that orchids are known as the "queen of tropical flowers", not only bringing high income value but also increasing spiritual value from elegant and peaceful pleasures, increasing landscape value, suitable for eco-tourism development, and at the same time creating new industries, gradually narrowing the income gap from agriculture with other industries.

This is also an opportunity for artisans and orchid growers to introduce, learn and share experiences in the art of breeding, planting and caring for orchids, and join hands to contribute to the strong and sustainable development of orchid production in Can Tho City and the whole country.
