Mr. Davide Guarini Gilmartin, Senior Academic Manager of the British Council English Program in Vietnam (3rd from right), congratulated Thanh Xuan Secondary School students for winning the regional runner-up position at the international film competition Your World 2023-2024.

Sharing with Thanh Nien on the evening of May 30, a representative of the British Council said that a representative from Thanh Xuan Secondary School (Hanoi) won first prize at the national level and second prize at the East Asia regional level at the Your World 2023-2024 international film making competition. The group of 5 students who achieved the above achievements included Can Tue Chi, Bui Thu Anh, Hoang Nguyen Bao Anh, Trieu Hoang Bao Nam (class 9A6) and Ho Thien Vu (8A3).

The success comes from an animation focusing on climate change and its solutions, developed by a group of students themselves. The content of the film applies knowledge from the students’ school subjects such as science, business and global perspectives. The product also competed with more than 600 entries from more than 3,000 students worldwide in the past time.

According to the group of students from Thanh Xuan Secondary School, the experiences throughout the process of making the animated film, from writing the script to recording, from editing to completing the product, all left us with new experiences and many unforgettable memories. "We have learned many lessons to improve and develop ourselves further," the runner-up team shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huyen, Principal of Thanh Xuan Secondary School, said the contest created opportunities for students to unleash their creativity with their passion for cinema and foreign languages, thereby raising awareness of social and environmental issues. "I hope that you will continue to inspire and motivate generations of Vietnamese students, and at the same time be ready to join the international labor market and become global citizens," Ms. Huyen said.

Mr. Davide Guarini Gilmartin shared at the Your World Awards 2023-2024 ceremony

Speaking at the Your World 2022-2023 awards ceremony on May 20, Mr. Davide Guarini Gilmartin, Senior Academic Manager of the British Council's English program in Vietnam, assessed that all the videos were well-structured, professionally produced, and offered practical solutions to encourage viewers to take action for the climate, such as using sustainable fashion.

"Vietnam's winning video uses simple animation to effectively convey the story. The creativity, organization and presentation are logical and easy to use globally, not just in Vietnam," said Mr. Gilmartin. Meanwhile, Ms. Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council in Vietnam, affirmed that through global competitions such as Your World, students can interact with friends around the world, encouraging them to become global citizens.

A year earlier, Vietnam had its first representative at the global level, and also won first place in the East Asia and national levels of the Your World competition. The winning team was five students from Cau Giay Secondary School (Hanoi) with a short film about the Menthy Club, a social action project that addresses physical and mental health issues at their own school.

Your World is an annual film-making competition for 14-17 year olds from schools in the British Council's global network of partners. With the theme "Climate Change: From Crisis to Action", the content of Your World 2023-2024 is closely linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13.

In the fourth year of participation, Vietnam has 5 representatives from public and private schools in the Cambridge program in Vietnam. This is also the fourth year that Vietnam has joined the British Council's global network of partner schools. Worldwide, this network has 2,500 member schools, supporting more than 100,000 teachers and millions of students.
