Industrial production activities continue to improve

The industrial production index of the whole industry in 2024 is expected to increase by over 19%

According to the assessment of the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa province, industrial production activities in the area in 2024 continued to have many improvements, industrial enterprises have flexibly adapted to market fluctuations, basically maintaining and stabilizing production activities. The index of industrial production of the whole industry (IIP) in 2024 is expected to increase by over 19% over the same period. Specifically, Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant, after a general maintenance in 2023, has maintained continuous and stable operation with more than 100% of its design capacity, making an important contribution to industrial growth and economic development of the province. In 2024, the plant will increase its production capacity to compensate for the gasoline output for the market when Dung Quat Refinery is temporarily closed for general maintenance.

In addition, the garment and footwear industry continues to have many improvements. Currently, in Thanh Hoa province, there are about 230 garment and footwear manufacturing establishments, creating jobs for more than 200,000 workers. Notably, in 2024, factories signed many production orders, increasing production activities. It is forecasted that in 2025, the garment and footwear industry will continue to recover and improve.

Regarding the steel product group, since the beginning of the year, Nghi Son Iron and Steel Plant (capacity of 10.1 million tons/year) has been producing stably and growing slightly. In the coming time, it is forecasted that the steel market in the country and the world will continue to recover, along with major projects such as Nghi Son DST Steel Plant and Nghi Son High-Tech Mechanical Plant being actively invested in, the steel industry in the province has many advantages to maintain stability and growth.

In addition, Thanh Hoa province currently has 19 power plants in operation (02 thermal power plants, 13 hydropower projects, 01 solar power plant, 03 biomass power plants), thermal power plants, hydropower plants, solar power plants operate stably to generate electricity to the national grid, commercial electricity meets the production and daily needs of people in the area, so electricity production in 2024 is stable and growing. Commercial electricity in 2024 is estimated at 8.004 billion kWh, up 12.6% over the same period, reaching 102.9% of the plan. Electricity production in 2024 is estimated at 14.588 billion kWh, up 17.4% over the plan, up about 9% compared to 2023.

Up to now, Thanh Hoa province has 3 sugar factories with a total capacity of 19,000 tons of sugarcane/day. Of which, 2 factories are operating: Lam Son Sugar Factory with a capacity of 10,500 tons of sugarcane/day and Vietnam - Taiwan Sugar Factory with a capacity of 6,000 tons of sugarcane/day; Nong Cong Sugar Factory with a capacity of 2,500 tons of sugarcane/day has stopped operating); 3 factories and 2 cassava starch processing facilities with a total designed capacity of 250 thousand tons/year. However, in recent years, the projects have encountered difficulties in raw material areas, and the raw materials have not met the capacity of the factories, so the output of the factories has tended to decrease gradually.

Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Le Huy Tuan, Head of the Planning - Finance - General Department, Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa province, said: In addition to the achieved results, in 2024, industrial production activities still have limitations and difficulties, such as the output of some traditional industrial products of the province has a decreasing trend over the years such as: Beer, cassava starch, fertilizer, ... mainly because the majority of enterprises producing traditional industrial products have outdated technology, slow innovation, improvement, and restructuring; raw material areas are narrowed, production costs and efficiency are low, leading to quality and prices that are difficult to compete in the market. In addition, attracting projects to produce new industrial products is still limited, especially products with high science and technology content and added value.

Preparing solutions for industrial production to "breakthrough" in 2025

In order for Thanh Hoa province's industrial production to "breakthrough" in 2025, the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa has advised the Provincial People's Committee on many important contents in promoting industrial development, such as the Action Plan on socio-economic development in 2025. Regularly monitor and grasp the situation, focus on removing difficulties and obstacles, create favorable conditions for industrial production establishments to maintain stable operations and maximize capacity.

Thanh Hoa province will continue to create all conditions to accelerate the progress of industrial projects in order to put them into operation soon, creating more production capacity for the economy. Continue to strongly develop industry in rural areas, especially agricultural processing industry, equipment, machinery, materials, animal feed, fertilizer manufacturing industry for agriculture; develop small-scale industry associated with restoring traditional occupations and cultivating new occupations with good and sustainable consumption markets.

In the coming time, Thanh Hoa province will continue to review and fully update the shortcomings of the related planning compared to the provincial planning to update the adjusted provincial planning dossier, ensuring synchronization and convenience in the implementation of planning to serve the management and operation of state management agencies at all levels of the industry and the investment, construction and production activities of the projects are smooth. Focus on urging, directing and guiding the procedures for establishing and investing in industrial cluster infrastructure, speeding up the progress of filling industrial clusters, focusing on developing industrial clusters in rural and mountainous areas, areas with difficult socio-economic conditions, creating conditions to attract secondary investment projects; speeding up the investment progress of large and key projects assigned.

Closely follow business activities, propose and recommend solutions to overcome difficulties to increase output, strive to complete and exceed the plan.
