(NLDO) - To "save" Hon Vong Phu which could collapse at any time, Thanh Hoa province has just issued a document requesting appraisal and implementation of the project, with a budget of 17 billion VND.
On February 16, news from the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province said that Mr. Dau Thanh Tung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the province, has just submitted a document requesting the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH-TT-DL) to appraise the project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic belonging to the An Hoach Mountain Artistic Relic and Scenic Area (Nhio Mountain), An Hung Ward, Thanh Hoa City.
Hon Vong Phu scenic spot on Nhoi mountain is at risk of collapsing after being struck by lightning twice.
According to the report, Hon Vong Phu is made of limestone, over time, Hon Vong Phu has been weathered and cracked. The survey results of the functional sector show that there are layers of residual soil, slopes or thick cracked and broken rock zones on the surface at the geological exposure of the hill as well as broken rocks, proving that the weathering process of soil and rock has taken place strongly. The weathering process changes the composition of the original rock, the rock loses its integrity, and reduces the durability of the rock block.
In particular, after being struck by lightning twice, and being affected by quarrying and blasting activities in the surrounding area, the structure of Hon Vong Phu has been shaken, leading to increasingly widening weathering cracks. Therefore, even small, unusual impacts (rain, wind, earthquakes, blasting, etc.) can seriously affect the safety and threaten the collapse of Hon Vong Phu.
Stone pillar struck by lightning causing peeling and cracking
Faced with the risk of this monument collapsing at any time, in September 2024, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province decided to approve the expenditure of 17 billion VND (from the provincial budget) to "save" this scenic spot. The completion date is before April 30, 2025.
According to the project, the goal is to propose solutions to preserve, reinforce, and strengthen to ensure the sustainability of the Hon Vong Phu relic, creating stability and resistance to movement under any impact of weather and surrounding environment.
Previously, according to a report from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, on the night of June 15, 2022, the Hon Vong Phu relic was struck by lightning, causing a landslide of a 1x3 m rock block in the west and a 2.5x3 m rock block in the east.
Not only affected by lightning strikes, this project was also previously greatly affected by blasting and quarrying activities around this mountain.
After the above incident, Hon Vong Phu was broken, many cracks appeared, currently has a vertical tilt of 10 - 15 degrees, and is at risk of being struck by lightning and collapsing if protection and preservation measures are not taken soon.
Hon Vong Phu scenic relic is located in the An Hoach Mountain Art and Scenic Relic Complex (also known as Nhoi Mountain; An Hung Ward, Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa Province). It is a stone pillar about 20 m high, resembling a woman holding a child. This relic is considered one of the famous scenic spots of Thanh Hoa Province.
This relic cluster was recognized as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1992, including: Thuong Communal House, Hinh Son Pagoda, Quan Thanh Pagoda, Tomb of Duke Le Trung Nghia and Hon Vong Phu.
