These are chè shops that have existed since after 1975, run by a family with several siblings cooking and selling chè. The name Nghĩa Trung chè was born from that.
In the past, whenever family, friends, or lovers made an appointment, they would take us to Nghia Trung to eat sweet soup. Sometimes, when we passed by Nghia Trung sweet soup shops, we would suddenly hear the buzz of memories from our school days.
It is unclear why Nghia Trung sweet soup shops were so attractive to young people like us at that time. The age of the sweet soup shops was probably equal to or greater than our 40s.
Until now, sometimes, when our group of 8X friends meet, we also make an appointment at Nghia Trung sweet soup shop.
In the era of milk tea and coffee with hundreds of drink recipes being popular in coffee shops like now, a cup of chè is no longer a luxury like it was decades ago. Chè shops are popping up everywhere. Chè is sold on the sidewalk, in the market, on street corners with all kinds and flavors.
The taste and color of the sweet soup are now much more unique. But it seems that for the Dai Loc students who are far away from home or have a chance to remember, the Nghia Trung sweet soup is not only a thirst quencher or snack but also a dish of memories.
In the past, each cup of Nghia Trung sweet soup cost 2,000 VND; now each cup costs 15,000 VND. Nghia Trung sweet soup “menu” now has dozens of dishes, but mixed sweet soup is still considered a typical dish that has existed for over 40 years.
Mixed sweet soup, the main ingredients are black beans, red beans but green heart and more than 10 other types of beans, seeds, spices, flavorings, from ground black beans, green beans to coconut milk for rich taste, crispy dried coconut slices sprinkled on top with peanuts, shredded coconut...
All blend together, giving a sweet and refreshing feeling. A cup of mixed sweet soup has up to 14 flavors, beans, and spices. The sweet soup looks simple at first glance but is elaborately prepared.
Nghia Trung used to belong to Dai Nghia commune, now Nghia Trung area, Ai Nghia town. But when talking about Nghia Trung tea, people no longer talk about the name of the shop or the seller, but it becomes a place name that goes into many people's memories.
In the sweet soup shops and street corners of Nghia Trung, memories of the time of tamarind and beautiful youth suddenly come flooding back...
