Establishing new grassroots trade union in Long Xuyen city

Since the beginning of the year, the Long Xuyen City Labor Federation has established 4 new grassroots unions in enterprises, with a total of 430 union members. This year, the city's Labor Federation strives to develop 2,000 union members, and establish 100% of grassroots unions with 25 or more employees. In addition to solutions to promote propaganda work, promote the role of the city's union member development steering committee, support at the grassroots level... the union also prioritizes funding to ensure union member development and union grassroots establishment. In particular, there is a satisfactory reward mechanism, appropriate to the union member development work that meets and exceeds the set targets.

In the first quarter of 2025, the province developed 627 new union members, a decrease of 1,600 union members, established 11 grassroots unions and trade unions, and a decrease of 52 grassroots unions and trade unions (due to mergers and dissolutions). Up to now, there are 116,059 union members operating in 1,481 grassroots unions and trade unions. According to the Provincial Federation of Labor, from the beginning of the year until now, the work of developing union members, establishing grassroots unions and collecting union funds and fees, especially in the production and business sector, has been slow.

In 2025, the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions will continue to be promoted with the aim of gathering and attracting workers to join the Vietnam Trade Union, especially workers in enterprises and the informal sector to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers. At the same time, continue to effectively implement the plan of the Provincial Federation of Labor Executive Committee on implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party and Resolution 02-NQ/TW, dated June 12, 2021 of the Politburo on "Innovation of organization and operation of Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation", creating an important premise to contribute to achieving the target by the end of the 2023 - 2028 term, the whole province will develop an additional 28,000 union members.

The Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor requires that the work of developing new union members and establishing grassroots unions this year must diversify the forms and methods of mobilization and propaganda. The work of developing union members is considered a key task, associated with the work of building, consolidating and improving the quality of union activities in the direction of serving union members and workers. Unions at all levels need to maximize the role and responsibility of members of the steering committee for developing union members, collaborators and union officials at all levels; strongly invest financial resources to achieve the set targets. Workers' Month 2025 is identified as "The peak month of developing union members, establishing grassroots unions; introducing and developing worker party members".

In 2025, the target assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to An Giang province is to increase the number of union members by 16,000. Strive to have at least 95% of employees working in state agencies, units, organizations and enterprises be union members and at least 90% of employees working in units, organizations and enterprises outside the state sector be union members. Encourage units to promote the development of union members in areas without labor relations (informal sectors) to protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members. Take care of union members' interests, support and assist union members, and contribute with local authorities to maintain order, security and social safety.

Strive for most enterprises with 20 or more employees to establish grassroots trade union organizations. Enterprises without labor representative organizations will have the majority of employees gathered and participate in the activities of the Vietnam Trade Union. For areas without labor relations, focus on establishing grassroots trade unions in stable industries with strong development trends. Encourage units to proactively develop pilot projects to innovate the establishment of grassroots trade union models in an open and flexible manner to meet the aspirations of employees.

To effectively implement, along with propaganda work, the focused solution to attract union members to join the union organization is to see the benefits and practical participation of the union for union members, creating a difference with the workers. Unions at all levels continue to promote the work of caring for the material and spiritual life of union members and workers through specific and practical activities; ensuring regimes and policies for workers according to the provisions of law. The union increases the work of visiting and working with enterprises, thereby proposing to the sectors to remove difficulties for enterprises to create trust of enterprises in the union organization.

The Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has chosen 2025 as the “Year of Union Member Development”, with the target of having at least 13.5 million union members nationwide by the end of 2025. Other agencies, units and organizations that meet the conditions under the Charter of the Vietnam Trade Union shall establish grassroots union organizations, but focus on improving the quality of union members and activities of grassroots unions.
