Donald Trump appeared to be the target of an assassination attempt while speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13 (local time), AP news agency quoted law enforcement officials as saying.
The former US president, whose right ear was bleeding from what he said was a gunshot, was quickly taken into protective custody by Secret Service agents and his campaign said he was "fine".

CNN quoted a Secret Service statement as saying that a gunman fired multiple shots from an "elevated position" outside Mr. Trump's campaign before Secret Service agents "neutralized" the shooter.
"During a rally for former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, at approximately 6:15 p.m. on July 13, a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside the rally venue," the Secret Service said in a statement.
Secret Service agents "neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased," the statement continued.
"The Secret Service responded quickly with protective measures and former President Trump is safe. One audience member died and two others were seriously injured. This incident is currently under investigation, and the Secret Service has notified the FBI," Anthony Guglielmi, director of communications for the Secret Service, said in a statement.
Posting on his Truth Social media page about two and a half hours after the shooting, Mr Trump said a bullet "went through the upper part of my right ear".
"I knew something was wrong when I heard the whistling, the gunshot, and immediately felt the bullet tear through my skin," Trump said. "There was a lot of blood, so that's when I realized what was happening."
Law enforcement officials told the AP that Mr Trump appeared to have been the target of an assassination attempt while speaking at a campaign rally.
The shooting was the first attempt to assassinate a US president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981, according to AP.
It comes amid a deeply polarized political landscape in the United States, just four months before the US presidential election, and days before Mr Trump is formally declared the Republican Party's presidential nominee at his party's convention.
