Descendants of King Ham Nghi present precious relics to Hue

VHO - On November 5, the descendants of King Ham Nghi donated precious relics that he used to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center. Thereby, contributing to the diversity and richness of the exhibition space about King Ham Nghi in Hue.

Descendants of King Ham Nghi presented a pair of walrus ivory chopsticks, used in King Ham Nghi's meals during the Can Vuong period 1885-1889.

Dr. Amandine Dabat, the 5th generation descendant of King Ham Nghi in France, represented the family to present precious relics, including: A mother-of-pearl inlaid wooden tray measuring 31.4cm long, 18.4cm deep and 10cm high; A set of Chinese books with Royal records of the Imperial Court (2 volumes), Dan do district records (26 volumes), and Tang dinh thi kinh the chi dien nghia (5 volumes).

These artifacts originally belonged to King Ham Nghi, the wooden tray was brought from Vietnam and he always kept it with him as a souvenir of his homeland. The Chinese book set is one of the few books he ever read and has kept to this day.

Dr. Amandine Dabat, the 5th generation descendant of King Ham Nghi, presented to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center a souvenir of a mother-of-pearl inlaid wooden tray.

These precious relics were carefully kept by Princess Nhu Mai - the eldest daughter of King Ham Nghi to commemorate her father and were passed down to future generations.

Along with that, Mr. Dang Van Luyen and Mr. Dang Van Giap, the 4th generation descendants of King Ham Nghi, also presented artifacts related to the patriotic king. Among them: A pair of royal chopsticks made of walrus ivory, considered extremely rare.

This pair of chopsticks is said to have been given by Queen Mother Tu Du to Mrs. Phan Thi Hoa to use during King Ham Nghi's meals during the Can Vuong period of 1885 - 1889. In addition, the pair of porcelain chopsticks given were also used in King Ham Nghi's family.

These artifacts are considered to have cultural and historical value, contributing to enriching the Collection and display space about King Ham Nghi at the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum (under the Hue Monuments Conservation Center).

Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said: Descendants of King Ham Nghi in different countries had the opportunity to gather in Hue and present valuable relics, expressing the gratitude of the king's descendants to their roots, while contributing to deepening the cooperative relationship and cultural exchange between Vietnam and the world.

And the Chinese book collection is one of the few books that King Ham Nghi read while abroad and has been carefully preserved by Princess Nhu Mai until today's generation.

The donated relics are vivid evidence of a period of ups and downs in Vietnamese history. Thua Thien Hue Province and the Center are very interested in repatriating the relics.

Recently, many organizations and individuals have donated artifacts to the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum, including 19 repatriated artifacts from countries such as France, Germany, and Spain through forms such as provinces participating in auctions, businesses successfully organizing auctions and donating them, or overseas Vietnamese donating...
