The five-room house rebuilt by the Nguyen Phuoc Clan Council on the old Thai To Temple foundation will be demolished, evaluated and the original components will be preserved.

Thai Mieu relic is located in the southeast of Hue Imperial City, built by King Gia Long in 1804, is a place to worship 9 Nguyen Lords. This construction is symmetrical with The Mieu in the southwest corner, is a place to worship Nguyen Dynasty kings.

Are the largest scale projects

The overall relic of Thai Mieu is an architectural complex with more than 10 construction items built on an area of over 14,900m2. In which, the main structure of Thai To Mieu has a wooden architecture built in the style of double houses "trung thiem diep oc", and is the largest wooden structure in Hue Imperial City with the front hall having 15 compartments and two wings, the main hall having 13 compartments and two wings. After many historical changes, the Thai Mieu relic was destroyed in 1947. In 1972, Lady Tu Cung (ie Doan Huy Hoang Thai Hau) and the descendants of the Nguyen Phuc clan donated funds and rebuilt the main structure of the Thai Mieu on a smaller scale right on the foundation of the old structure. However, over the years, this structure has also been degraded, deserted, and on the verge of collapse. Many other structures in the relic site are in a similar situation, and are almost unknown to tourists. The tablets of the Nguyen lords were also brought to Trieu Mieu (located north of Thai Mieu) for worship.

According to the representative of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, although most of the structures in this relic cluster have been destroyed, based on the written descriptions and the current state of the foundation that still exists, the restoration work being carried out will completely recreate the most important temple under the Nguyen Dynasty. The project "Preservation, renovation, restoration and overall embellishment of the Thai Mieu relic, phase 1" being implemented will contribute to preserving and promoting the value of the special national historical relic, the world cultural heritage. The completed Thai Mieu area will restore the sacrificial rituals, recreate a part of the intangible heritage that is being passed down and will be the core in exploiting tourism in the Thai Mieu - Trieu Mieu area, which has been left open for a long time due to the deterioration of the structures.

Previously, in 2021, the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province passed Resolution No. 35/NQ-HDND on approving the investment policy of the project "Preservation, renovation, restoration and overall embellishment of Thai Mieu relic, phase 1" with a total cost of 272.7 billion VND, from the central budget and other legal capital sources. In the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025 of Thua Thien Hue, this project was allocated 100 billion VND, including 50 billion VND from the central budget reserve and 50 billion VND from the relic entrance fee. However, because the project was not approved in time in 2021 and 2022, the central reserve fund was canceled and withdrawn. At the end of 2023, to implement the conservation and restoration of Thai Mieu relic, the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province issued a Resolution adjusting the capital structure of the project from the provincial budget.

When will it be restored?

However, the budget for the project "Preservation, renovation, restoration and overall embellishment of the Thai Mieu relic, phase 1" is 52 billion VND, so the scope of implementation mainly focuses on investing in seriously degraded works that can collapse at any time and prioritizes eliminating abandoned spaces in the sacred area of the Thai Mieu.

Specifically, for the existing Thai To Temple relic, the artifacts belonging to the project will be demolished, classified, evaluated, preserved and stored. This project has an area of 1,917m2 (71m x 27m), demolishing the railing system, the southern foundation wall, moving the entire system of trees and materials that are not in the right position and not up to standard out of the Thai To Temple foundation area, decorating the Thanh stone pavement in the front hall area. At the same time, the surrounding foundation walls will be repaired and restored; the entire foundation system will be reinforced, the foundation system will be adjusted; the foundation will be termite-proofed and concrete will be poured for the project.

The Thai Mieu Mon relic (with an area of 54m2) will have its foundation reinforced, its foundation moisture-proofed; the foundation and steps inside and outside the gate will be adjusted and repaired. The rotten mortar will be peeled off, plastered with three-component mortar, and the finishing color will be applied. The roof system will be restored, the decorative motifs will be restored. The door system will be restored with group II wood, and the wooden structures will be protected from termites. The project of this phase will also preserve, repair, and restore the gate and wall systems in the Thai Mieu area, including: Dien Hy Mon, Quang Hy Mon, Tuc Tuong Mon, and Hien Thua Mon. The foundation remains with a total area of 1,078m2 of the Ta Tung Tu, Huu Tung Tu, Muc Tu Dien; Tho Cong Tu and Tuy Thanh Cac works will be protected. At the same time, the yard, walkways and electricity and water supply and drainage systems will be installed in the Thai Mieu relic area. Planning and preserving existing old trees, beautifying the landscape and green tree system in the area...

The leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that the first phase of the project will be implemented in nearly 4 years, constructed by the Central Monuments Restoration Joint Stock Company - Vinaremon. The project completed in this phase will be a scenic attraction; the scale of the Thai To Temple will be restored when conditions are sufficient.
