On the morning of June 22, speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Hoang Xuan Tan, Chairman of Dien My Commune People's Committee (Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh), said that by nearly 11 p.m. on June 21, the authorities and local people had completely extinguished the acacia forest fire that occurred in the area.
Hundreds of people joined in extinguishing the acacia forest fire at night.
According to Mr. Tan, at around 3:00 p.m. on June 21, people discovered fire and smoke rising from the acacia forest area in Tan Ha village (Dien My commune), bordering Duc Lien commune (Vu Quang district, Ha Tinh), so they reported it to the local authorities.
Dien My Commune People's Committee mobilized hundreds of people including police, militia, and military forces to coordinate with local people carrying fire fighting equipment into the forest to put out the fire.
Because the fire was deep in the forest and the hot weather made firefighting very difficult.
After many hours of trying to put out the fire, authorities and people were able to extinguish the fire.
By nearly 11 p.m. the same day, the acacia forest fire had been extinguished. “The fire occurred in an acacia forest with a thick layer of ground cover, so the fire spread very quickly. According to initial statistics, the fire spread over about 5 hectares of acacia forest,” said Mr. Tan.
According to the leader of Dien My Commune People's Committee, the cause of the acacia forest fire is being investigated and clarified by the police.
