Hundreds of passengers join hands to paint the flight pink for gender equality

On the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day October 20 and in response to the Month of Action for Gender Equality, on the morning of October 1, Vietnam Airlines coordinated with UN Women and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) to organize a flight called HeForShe.

The special pink flight took off from Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi) at 9:55 and landed at Can Tho Airport at 12:10 the same day.

HeForShe is a global movement launched by UN Women since 2014. The flight aims to raise awareness about the role and participation of men in gender equality activities.

This special flight is one of the activities responding to the Men for Women (HeForShe) campaign launched by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

Through the flight, hundreds of passengers, along with representatives from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam Airlines, UN Women, Vietnam Women's Union... had a meaningful journey, strongly conveying the message of gender equality.

Tran Thi Thuy An (21 years old, from Hau Giang) was very surprised and happy when she was given milk tea at the check-in counter for the first time on a plane. The 21-year-old girl said that this flight from Hanoi to Can Tho was an extremely memorable experience.

Pink, which is considered a color reserved for women, was used by the organizers to convey a message about diversity and gender equality.

Therefore, on this special flight, passengers will receive gifts with the campaign's signature colors such as pink T-shirts, milk tea, 100ml pink Valentine makeup remover... This is also a message about freedom of choice, about breaking down gender barriers and respecting the diversity of each individual.

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Gam and Mr. Hoang Van Lap went to Hanoi to visit their family more than a week ago. On the flight this morning, the whole family was very surprised to receive gifts from the flight crew.

“This is the first time my family has experienced such a special and meaningful flight. The message of the flight is very cute and positive. We always want to be treated equally and gently by the man beside us,” Ms. Gam shared.

In Can Tho City, the delegation members experienced the Beijing+30 Bus Tour – one of 30 bus trips to cities in Vietnam to recognize achievements in gender equality in Vietnam.

On this occasion, many gifts were presented to the Peaceful House in the Mekong Delta region such as refrigerators, water filters, blankets, etc.

“We believe that small actions by individuals can make a big difference. Participating in community activities, such as the HeForShe campaign, is a clear demonstration of that.

We hope that the “pink flight” will strongly spread the message of gender equality, encourage everyone to join hands to build a more equitable society and promote positive actions,” said Mr. Do Dong Hung, Deputy Head of the Department for the Advancement of Women, Vietnam Airlines.
