Row of electric poles blocking the middle of the road in Ha Long City

VietNamNetVietNamNet09/06/2023

On Thong Nhat Street (Ha Trung Ward, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh), for many months now, there have been 9 electric poles "growing" in the middle of the road, affecting traffic safety.

The electric pole takes up 1/3 of the road so vehicles have to "avoid" it when passing through.

This row of electric poles has existed for many months but has not been moved yet, along with a tangled system of electric wires that are hanging down in places.

Because the electric pole blocks the road, two cars going in opposite directions must slow down to avoid collision.

In addition, some people also leave household garbage and billboards next to electric poles, causing loss of urban beauty.

Electric poles with tangled wires, some hanging down, pose a potential safety risk.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (66 years old, residing in group 28, zone 3, Ha Trung ward) said: "The electric pole right in front of the gate affects my business, it is also difficult to take my motorbike out. At night, if people do not pay attention, it will be very dangerous. The people of the neighborhood have made many petitions to the authorities but so far they have not been resolved."

On Thong Nhat Street there are currently 9 electric poles located in the middle of the road.

Speaking with VietNamNet, Chairman of Ha Trung Ward People's Committee Nguyen Le Phuong admitted that there was a situation of electric poles in the middle of the road on Thong Nhat Street.

According to Ms. Phuong, these electric poles used to be on the sidewalk, but after people donated land to widen the road, the electric poles were in the middle of the road. Realizing this problem, the investor initially put reflective panels on the poles to warn people driving on the road of danger.

The investor stuck reflective patches on electric poles to warn people moving on the road at night.

"If these poles were low-voltage poles, moving them would cost less, but these are medium-voltage poles, so a large amount of money is needed, so they cannot be moved immediately and a new project must be established. The Ha Long City People's Committee has surveyed and directed the City Project Management Board to study and include them in the project. By the end of this year, there will be funding and the investment will be made to move them next year," Ms. Phuong informed.

The foot of the electric pole becomes a place for household waste and advertising billboards, causing loss of urban beauty.

It is known that the project to widen Thong Nhat Street from 4m to 7.5m will be completed in December 2022, the road is 800m long. The project is invested by the Ha Long City Construction Investment Project Management Board with a budget of 16.9 billion VND. 75 households living on both sides of the road have donated more than 4,700m2 of land to serve the road expansion.

Previously, the electric poles were on the sidewalk, but after the road was widened, they were on the roadway.
It is expected that this row of electricity poles will be moved in 2024.
