Taking place over two days, April 10-11, the second International Scientific Conference on “Green Solutions and Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development” (GSETS 2025) was organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Center for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (HCMC C4IR). The conference gathered nearly 300 delegates with more than 170 scientific papers, including 7 reports at 2 plenary sessions, more than 40 reports at 3 parallel sessions, and dozens of posters at the exhibition session.

The three key topics include Advanced Materials and Green Manufacturing Technologies; Sustainable Development Solutions and Technologies; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development. The research projects not only demonstrate scientific depth and practical feasibility, but also demonstrate the growing interest of the global academic community in Vietnam's sustainable development future.
At the working sessions, many reports from international scholars attracted attention due to their breakthroughs in scientific solutions as well as their potential applications in Vietnam's conditions. Some outstanding topics include: "Recent advances in Polymer Composite Electrolytes integrated with inorganic fillers"; "Artificial Intelligence in Computational Mechanics"; "Internal transformation and its relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals"; "Improving the catalytic performance of metal oxide-based systems for biorefineries"; "Magnetic viscosity (MR) technology for shock and vibration control";...

The common point among the studies is their high and long-term applicability in the context of Vietnam facing many pressures on the environment and infrastructure development. For example, research on polymer nanocomposite materials aims at biodegradable membrane products, which are considered a potential solution to replace traditional plastics in packaging and waste treatment - which are posing many challenges for large cities in Vietnam.
Research on cellulose paper integrated with Fe-nano MOF, with the ability to decompose toxic organic compounds in water, brings a new approach to industrial wastewater treatment. Meanwhile, the application of AI in computational mechanics allows simulation and prediction of the efficiency of construction structures or technical systems, opening up the possibility of improving the quality of construction and smart urban management, suitable for the needs of sustainable development in large cities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

In addition to plenary and parallel sessions, poster sessions were also held, serving as an open forum for research groups to present their work in a visual format, thereby enhancing multidimensional academic connections and exchanges.
With an expanded and upgraded scale compared to the first time held in 2023, the GSETS 2025 International Scientific Conference shows HUTECH's efforts in contributing to creating an influential academic forum, opening up many opportunities for cooperation and academic exchange between researchers in the fields of materials science, green technology, data science, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for the United Nations' sustainable development goals. This is also a bridge to help domestic and foreign delegates exchange new research directions and transfer scientific and technological applications to serve sustainable development goals in Vietnam.

Notably, within the framework of GSETS 2025, HUTECH also launched the METS (Materials and Emerging Technologies for Sustainability) scientific journal. The journal brings together nearly 20 members who are experts and scientists from many countries around the world such as the United States, Australia, Italy, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia and China, in which Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - Director of CIRTech Institute of Technology - HUTECH takes on the role of Editor-in-Chief.
The launch of METS marks an important step forward for HUTECH in improving research quality, connecting the international scientific community and promoting sustainable solutions for social development.
