The workers' health has stabilized.
On the morning of December 7, speaking with a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Pham Ngoc Quy - Head of the Nghe An Food Safety and Hygiene Department said: Regarding the incident in which dozens of workers had to be hospitalized after lunch on December 6, the health of the patients has now stabilized, and no one has deteriorated.
Workers hospitalized for monitoring and treatment after showing symptoms of poisoning
Previously, at around 11:30 a.m. on December 6, BAC Trading Joint Stock Company provided 1,215 lunches to 3 companies, including Premium Fashion Vietnam Co., Ltd., JTEC Nghe An Co., Ltd. and NAKANO Garment Company (located in WHA Industrial Park and VSIP Industrial Park).
At around 1 p.m. the same day, many workers showed symptoms of poisoning such as headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and rash.
A total of 84 workers were taken to hospitals for emergency care and treatment.
Immediately after receiving the information, Nghe An Department of Health quickly directed localities; Provincial Food Safety Department; General Friendship Hospital, Nghi Loc, 115, Cua Dong; medical centers of Nghi Loc and Hung Nguyen districts; public and non-public medical facilities in the province.
Accordingly, hospitals organize to receive, provide emergency care, treat, and monitor the condition of patients, coordinate well, provide professional and human resource support, and promptly transfer poisoned patients to higher-level facilities.
Review and prepare to arrange human resources, medicine, medical supplies, medical equipment, and hospital beds to the maximum extent possible to receive, handle, and treat patients.
Nghe An General Hospital directed the foreign emergency team to be ready to support Nghi Loc General Hospital, 115, Cua Dong and lower-level units if necessary, according to the direction of the Department of Health;
Direct the Department of Resuscitation and Anti-Poison and related departments to prepare plans, be ready to arrange human resources, medicine, supplies, and medical equipment to receive severe cases transferred from lower levels.
The Food Safety and Hygiene Department organized an investigation, coordinated with the People's Committee, the Department of Health of Nghi Loc district and related units to direct the implementation of investigation activities, handle and promptly overcome the consequences...
By 8 p.m. the same day, 43 cases had stabilized and were discharged from the hospital, while 41 patients were still being monitored. NAKANO Garment Company alone did not record any cases of poisoning despite 112 people consuming the food.
Suspend the kitchen providing meals for workers
In parallel with receiving, treating, and providing emergency care to the workers, the Nghe An provincial health sector also quickly inspected the kitchen of BAC Trading Joint Stock Company - the unit providing lunch for more than 1,200 workers at the 3 above-mentioned companies.
Initial results show that BAC Trading Joint Stock Company has not yet presented certificates of food safety and hygiene training; health certificates of 5/11 employees directly involved in food processing.
There is no contract to provide meals for units and no contract to provide food and food ingredients.
The three-step food inspection book and food sample logbook were presented, but the records were not properly recorded.
Regarding the actual conditions at the facility, at the time of the investigation, it was noted that the facility had some shortcomings such as inadequate hygiene in the areas; unreasonable arrangement of the areas; harmful insects and animals in the preliminary processing and processing areas. The implementation of the three-step food inspection regime and the storage of food samples were not in accordance with regulations.
Immediately after that, the authorities temporarily suspended this catering unit due to many problems. The investigation team also took food samples for testing and determined the cause of the incident.
