On the morning of September 7, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, informed about storm No. 3 and the level of impact of the storm on people in the capital Hanoi.
Mr. Huong said that storm No. 3 is currently at level 14. The distance from the storm center to the mainland of Quang Ninh - Hai Phong provinces is about 130km. In the coming time, the storm will continue to move in a West-Northwest direction.
This afternoon, the storm will likely make landfall, causing strong winds of level 10, 11, 12 in Quang Ninh, Thai Binh and Nam Dinh; strong winds of level 8, level 10 in Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa... and further inland provinces such as Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang.
Storm No. 3 will cause very heavy rain in the Northern region, the heavy rain in the Northeast region will be concentrated today and tonight (September 7). This afternoon and tonight (September 7), heavy rain will expand to the Northwest region. This rain will last until about September 9. The total rainfall is forecast to be about 150-350mm, with some places over 500mm. The Northern region is likely to experience flooding. In addition, the mountainous provinces of the Northern Midlands and Thanh Hoa and Nghe An are likely to experience widespread flash floods.
Mr. Huong also said that storm No. 3 is a very strong storm with a wide circulation. Although Hanoi is not directly affected by storm No. 3's circulation, due to the impact of storm No. 3's circulation, from this afternoon and evening Hanoi is likely to have strong winds of level 6-7 gusting to level 9-10.
“Along with strong winds, Hanoi is likely to experience heavy rain, with forecasted rainfall of about 150-350mm. Strong winds in Hanoi will greatly impact people's lives. Strong winds and gusts of wind can cause trees to fall. Therefore, people should take note, limit going out this afternoon and evening and it is best not to leave the house. Regarding heavy rain, there is a possibility of flooding, people need to have a plan to prevent flooding this afternoon and evening,” said Mr. Huong./.
