In 2024, 672 candidates were recommended by the basic professorial councils to be recognized as meeting the standards for the titles of professor and associate professor. Of these, 61 were candidates for the title of professor.
In terms of hometown, Hanoi leads with 71 candidates requesting recognition for meeting the standards for the title of professor or associate professor. Most of the candidates with hometowns in Hanoi are working at universities, research institutes, hospitals, etc. in Hanoi.
Of the 10 provinces and cities with the largest number of professor and associate professor candidates, 9/10 are from the North Central region and beyond. These include 5 provinces and cities neighboring Hanoi, 4 provinces in the North Central region, and one province in the South Central region, Quang Ngai.

Thanh Hoa is the province with 50 candidates stating “hometown”, the second highest after Hanoi. However, most of the candidates are currently working in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, only one candidate is currently working in Thanh Hoa. This candidate is proposed to be recognized as an associate professor in the field of physical education and sports, currently working at Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Thua Thien Hue, Nghe An, Quang Ngai also have a number of candidates working at universities located in the area.
Meanwhile, candidates whose hometowns are in other provinces are mostly working in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang, very rarely or none are working locally.
For example, none of the candidates from Ha Tinh, Nam Dinh, and Ha Nam work in these provinces. Most of the candidates are currently working in universities and research institutes in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
In terms of workplace, Ho Chi Minh City National University is the place with the most candidates requesting recognition of meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor with 51 people, followed by Hanoi National University with 40 candidates.

In this statistic, all two national universities and three regional universities (Thai Nguyen, Hue, Da Nang) are present. National universities and regional universities have many member universities and institutes with a large number of lecturers and researchers, so it is not surprising that many candidates are proposed for recognition of the title of professor and associate professor.
If considering individual universities, Can Tho University is the unit with the largest number of candidates.
Hanoi University of Civil Engineering is also a rare single university in the top educational institutions with many candidates.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics are also in this top. Among the 27 candidates of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, there are two candidates from the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi – a university under this academy.
The only professor candidate from Ho Chi Minh City is working in Can Tho.
Ho Chi Minh City is the economic and educational center of the country, but in terms of hometown, the city only has 11 candidates. Notably, the only professor candidate whose hometown is in Ho Chi Minh City this year is working at Can Tho University. This person was born in 1976, a professor candidate in agriculture.
Although there are not many candidates whose hometown is Ho Chi Minh City who are proposed to be recognized as professors and associate professors, this is the workplace of hundreds of candidates whose hometown is in other provinces and cities.
In addition to Ho Chi Minh City National University, many other universities in the city such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, etc. have many candidates proposed to be recognized as professors and associate professors in this period.
