Once the poorest mountainous district of Quang Ninh province, Ba Che has now "changed its skin" and developed strongly. In addition to the support and investment policies of the State and the province, there is also a breakthrough from the internal strength of each person here, especially the young people. Among the young people joining the army today, how many boys and girls have written volunteer applications? In the generation of young people about to enter the military environment, how many people temporarily put aside their personal aspirations? I cannot guess, but I certainly know that today's young people are no longer waiting for the Fatherland to call their names, but volunteer to stand under the military flag, sing the military march and devote their youth to the Fatherland. In fact, many young people here have boldly pioneered in starting businesses in their homeland. Under the shade of 4,000 yellow camellia trees, the San Chi ethnic youth Dam Van Trieu (Thanh Son commune) decided to develop more livestock raising and free-range chickens on the hill. Every year, his family maintains raising 3 batches of 1,000 chickens, bringing in an income of 100-200 million VND/year.
Raising chickens under the canopy of yellow camellia flowers is very effective, because the trees provide shade for the chickens, the chickens pick grass, catch insects for the trees, and release fertilizer for the trees to grow better. "In the coming time, I will research and gradually deploy an eco-tourism model with the experience of visiting tea gardens, enjoying free-range chickens and local specialties for tourists," Mr. Trieu added.
Dare to think, dare to do, Mr. Trieu A Nhi (1997), Dao ethnic, Na Bap village, Don Dac commune, Ba Che district, has determined to build a model of raising chickens and goats combined with planting seedlings. With an area of nearly 2,000m2 of his family's land, he is determined to research documents on chicken raising techniques, then learn through field trips to large farms, from there apply to his chicken flock, at the same time boldly create a new economic model suitable to local characteristics...
From a small-scale farm, his family now raises more than 1,200 commercial chickens, each year he sells 3 batches, earning nearly 400 million VND. In addition, he also raises goats and grows nearly 3 hectares of acacia, cinnamon, golden tea, and ginseng seedlings... bringing in an income of nearly 200 million VND each year.
“Like many young Dao people in my hometown, I now want to be in charge of my own life and no longer depend on nature or government support. My land is very suitable for developing forest plantations and raising livestock, so there is no reason not to take advantage of that potential and advantage,” Nhi shared.
Not only is he a successful start-up model in his hometown, Mr. Trieu A Nhi also actively helps villagers, especially young people, develop their economy: instructing them on the application of technology in animal husbandry, supporting breeding animals, etc. Mr. Nhi's model of raising chickens and goats combined with planting seedlings is increasingly attracting young people and people from other localities to come and learn from his experience.
In the past 5 years, in Ba Che district, over 30 economic models led by young people have been developed, most of which have achieved high efficiency, such as: Growing fruit trees, medicinal plants; raising cows, chickens, etc. These models not only help young people in the district to get rich, but also create a great influence among young people competing to start a business and establish a career in their homeland.
According to the Ba Che District Youth Union, currently, youth economic models are developing in 7/7 communes and towns of the district, attracting a large number of young people to participate. The District Youth Union will continue to review and compile statistics on start-up models registered by young people to support and create conditions for young people to have the motivation to develop the economy, escape poverty, and enrich their families and localities.
Along with that, to improve farmers' lives, contributing to reducing poor households, Farmers' Associations at all levels in Ba Che district have propagated, mobilized, encouraged and motivated farmer members to participate in implementing models and projects in the fields of production and economic development; coordinated with the district's Social Policy Bank to create conditions for thousands of farmer households to borrow money to invest in production and economic development...
Up to now, 1,338 farmer households have registered to compete in the Farmers' Association for excellent production and business at all levels; maintaining the activities of the "Ba Che District Farmers' Excellent Production and Business Club" to cooperate and support each other in production, business and product consumption.
And so, with the efforts of both the government and the people, the lives of ethnic minorities in the mountainous district of Ba Che have gradually changed significantly, the hardships and poverty have gradually disappeared, giving way to prosperity. By the end of 2024, the average income per capita of the district will reach 80 million VND/person/year. The whole district has no more poor households, and the number of near-poor households is 1%.
