As Gmail faces false rumors, billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of X (formerly Twitter), has confirmed the upcoming launch of Xmail, sparking speculation about its ability to compete with Google's Gmail service, India Today reported. Musk's announcement came shortly after rumors of Gmail's shutdown spread widely on the internet.

The announcement followed a post from Nathan McGrady, a senior member of the X Platform Security Engineering team, who asked about the launch date for Xmail. Musk promptly confirmed that the service was on the way, opening up the potential for significant changes in the email service space.

The tech community has been abuzz with the announcement as they are concerned about the fate of Gmail, as a former Google employee announced that the company will shut down the world's most popular email service next August.

However, Google was quick to address the speculation, reassuring users that Gmail would not be shutting down. The company clarified the recent changes to Gmail's default interface, which was switched from 'basic HTML' to a sleek new look in January 2024.

Despite Google's confirmation, the rumors surrounding Gmail's fate have fueled discussions about alternative email services, with some expressing interest in trying Xmail as a viable option. One social media user also expressed doubts about Gmail and expressed a willingness to explore alternatives amid the speculation.
