Up to now, Mr. Tran Thanh Trung (born in 1986), in An Du Nam 1 neighborhood, Cua Tung town, Vinh Linh district, cannot remember how many grassroots tournaments he has participated in and what titles he has won. He only knows that his passion for sports and desire to play football for the community always burn. Thanh Trung is an amateur volleyball player with many contributions. In addition, he also participates in training young athletes for his hometown, makes efforts in developing the sports economy as well as actively participating in organizing mass tournaments in the area...

Since his primary school years, Trung has been familiar with volleyball, and when he entered secondary school, he officially became proficient at it. At school, he participated in many school sports competitions, Phu Dong Sports Festival...

“I do not have the advantage of height, and many friends often tease me for being “short and light”, but my passion for volleyball has overcome everything. I have studied on my own to overcome my height disadvantage and find a suitable playing position on the court. I came to the position of setter from then on and determined to improve myself to become a good setter,” Trung said.

In 2009, he graduated from the Biology Department of Hue University of Sciences and returned to work in his hometown. Having worked in many different jobs, wherever he was, whatever he did, Trung always made time for his passion for volleyball. Many times watching him compete on the field, we clearly saw the experienced spirit, cleverness and alertness of a "veteran" athlete.

In current grassroots volleyball tournaments, the setter position is not favored by young people, because they often rely on their height and jumping power to choose to compete and shine in attacking positions. That is why in many mass tournaments, many teams have weaknesses in the setter position.

With the advantage and many years of experience in this position, Mr. Trung has contributed many times to the common success of the An Du Nam 1 neighborhood football team, Cua Tung town. 15 years of keeping the passion for volleyball alive, he and his teammates won the championship in countless big and small tournaments in Cua Tung town and Vinh Linh district; established a football team to exchange and compete in volleyball tournaments in and outside the province and achieved many achievements.

Vinh Linh is a locality with a strong volleyball movement, however, at that time, each time participating in a tournament, athletes often had to travel far to print jerseys and buy specialized shoes. Grasping the needs of local players, in 2018, Mr. Trung decided to open Khanh Chi Sport, a sports shop specializing in providing genuine equipment, shoes, jerseys, flags, cups, medals... for volleyball competitions.

With experience and knowledge of this sport, he proactively cooperates with printing factories and brands specializing in genuine volleyball products such as Beyono, Mikasa, CP Sport... to choose the best quality products. Focusing on developing online customers, he expanded his business activities to districts and towns in the province and many other provinces such as Quang Binh, Nghe An... Currently, Khanh Chi Sport has become a fairly prestigious brand in the field of sports economics, especially services specializing in volleyball.

Realizing that local amateur volleyball has a tradition of many high achievements, to "keep the fire" for this playground, Mr. Trung organized the U18 volleyball tournament for local students; regularly coordinated with the youth union branches of the neighborhoods to organize training courses on basic volleyball skills for children every summer to arouse passion and the spirit of health training for the younger generation.

Over the years, Trung has participated in many large and small grassroots volleyball tournaments at all levels, competing in and outside the province. What is special about this athlete is that he always maintains his courage, form and health even when competing with younger, stronger athletes. To train his endurance, since 2023, Trung has become familiar with marathons and is currently a member of the Cua Tung Runner Club, an official member of the Quang Tri Runner Club.

Although he is just a new runner, Trung actively participates in many major marathons in and outside the province, especially charity runs for the community.

As an individual, he enthusiastically supports local sports tournaments both materially and spiritually. In addition, with his reputation and many years of experience as a volleyball player, he is also trusted to referee many mass sports tournaments in Cua Tung town.

Mr. Trung shared: “Being involved in grassroots volleyball tournaments in and out of the province, I see this as a playground with its own color and glory. Athletes in mass sports also have to go through hardships, sweat and tears just like professional athletes.

To contribute to the development of the sports movement in the community and to inspire the younger generation to maintain their passion, I will actively support local tournaments and continue playing football until my health no longer allows it...”.
