Supervising the trial of criminal cases in Dong Ha City

This morning, May 24, the monitoring delegation of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council, led by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Tran Huy, conducted a monitoring of the trial of criminal cases in the period of 2020 - 2023 at the People's Court of Dong Ha City.

From October 2020 to September 2023, Dong Ha City People's Court accepted 418 cases/544 defendants related to criminal cases. The Court resolved 418 cases/544 defendants, of which, 416 cases/540 defendants were tried; 2 cases/4 defendants were returned for further investigation.

Common crimes brought to trial include: drug crimes 208 cases/283 defendants; violations of human life, health, dignity, and honor 21 cases/28 defendants; violations of property rights 121 cases/138 defendants; violations of economic management order 16 cases/19 defendants; violations of public safety and public order 45 cases/66 defendants...

Of the 416 cases/540 defendants brought to trial, Dong Ha City People's Court imposed fixed-term imprisonment on 425 defendants, suspended prison sentences on 43 defendants, non-custodial reform on 23 defendants, and fined 49 defendants.

During the period 2020 - 2023, at the People's Court of Dong Ha City, there were 37 cases/37 defendants appealing and the Procuracy protesting for appellate trial. Of which, 36 cases/36 defendants appealed; 1 case/1 defendant protested (the Procuracy at the same level protested).

At the meeting, the People's Court of Dong Ha City analyzed and clarified the issues that the monitoring delegation was concerned about. At the same time, it recommended that superiors consider and support the organization of online trials and the construction of electronic courts.

Speaking at the supervision session, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Tran Huy requested the People's Court of Dong Ha City to supplement, complete and send recommendations and proposals in writing.

Continue to further improve the efficiency and quality of trial cases, contributing to stabilizing political security, social order and safety, and promoting local socio-economic development.

The monitoring delegation noted the recommendations and proposals of the People's Court of Dong Ha City and will submit them to the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council for consideration.
