This morning, May 28, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee Nguyen Van Khoi chaired a working session of the Provincial People's Council Standing Committee with the People's Court of Vinh Linh district to supervise the trial of criminal cases in the period of 2020 - 2023.

From October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2023, Vinh Linh District People's Court has a total of 130 criminal cases/167 defendants accepted. The total number of criminal cases the court returned for additional investigation was 1 case/2 defendants and accepted. The result was 130 cases/167 defendants resolved, reaching a rate of 100%.
The sentences applied to the defendants brought to trial: 107 defendants were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment, 33 defendants received suspended sentences, 9 defendants were sentenced to non-custodial reform, 7 defendants were fined, and 11 defendants were entrusted with execution of sentences. There were no cases where defendants were exempted from punishment.
Number of cases suspended 1 case/1 defendant with the reason that the victim withdrew the request. Total number of cases where the defendant appealed or the People's Procuracy protested the appeal trial 2 cases, of which 1 case appealed, the reason was to request a reduction in the sentence; 1 case protested, the reason was to increase the sentence. The District People's Court organized mobile trials for 8 cases/15 defendants and 22 experience-sharing sessions, 7 cases were tried online.
During the monitoring session, Vinh Linh District People's Court analyzed and clarified issues that the monitoring team was concerned about, especially cases with appeals and protests. At the same time, it recommended that the Provincial People's Court consider and assist in completing the power system and improving the transmission line to conduct online conferences and court sessions.
Concluding the monitoring session, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Legal Committee Nguyen Van Khoi requested that the Vinh Linh District People's Court in the coming time should further improve the quality of trial of cases, avoid letting criminals escape and allowing wrongful convictions. Continue to focus on resolving typical cases and complicated cases that are of public interest.
At the same time, closely coordinate with the agencies conducting the proceedings to perform well the assigned tasks. Strengthen the work of fostering and training the professional and technical skills of the staff to meet the increasingly high requirements in the work.
In addition, the People's Court of Vinh Linh district needs to promote propaganda, dissemination of legal education to the people and improve the quality of trial of mobile cases in the area. Thereby, contributing to stabilizing political security, social order and safety, promoting local socio-economic development.
