TPO - The drainage project downstream of DT.706B road - exit number 1 has been completed and connected to the drainage system to drain water, reducing the situation of sand overflowing onto the main tourist route in Phan Thiet City.
On September 27, regarding the handling of red sand overflowing onto Nguyen Thong Street (Phu Hai Ward, Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province), Mr. Le Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of Phan Thiet City People's Committee, said that recently, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, a large amount of rainwater from Vo Nguyen Giap Street overflowed, carrying sand from along 706B Street down to Nguyen Thong Street.

This incident caused traffic obstruction and unsafety for people and vehicles when participating in traffic on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, in front of Sau Lan 2 restaurant. The cause was that the drainage project downstream of DT.706B - exit 01 was not completed, so water overflowed, dragging sand onto the road.
As soon as the landslide occurred, the leaders of Phan Thiet City People's Committee, along with functional departments and related units, went to the scene and directed Phu Hai Ward People's Committee to urgently fix the problem, ensure smooth traffic, support people to fix the sand overflowing into their houses according to the "4 on-site" motto, urgently mobilize vehicles and forces to promptly fix the problem, quickly restore the road surface for vehicles to circulate.
Phan Thiet City People's Committee has directed Phu Hai Ward to assign forces to block off the area affected by sand when it rains, to ensure safety and guide tourists and residents to other directions. Always be prepared with vehicles and forces to handle emergencies when there is prolonged heavy rain.
In addition, the Phan Thiet City Construction Investment Project Management Board coordinated with relevant units and departments to build a temporary embankment with stone gabions in front of the sand spill area to prevent and reduce the flow of water and sand onto the road.
In the long term, to limit red sand from flowing onto Nguyen Thong Street, we must wait for the drainage project downstream of DT.706B Street and the construction of the drainage system in the Nguyen Thong Street area to be completed.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Civil and Industrial Works of Binh Thuan province, said that the drainage project at exit No. 1, Phu Hai ward (in the area of Nguyen Thong street) has 1 construction and installation package and was implemented from August 2010 to December 2014, the volume reached 1,991/2,121 m3, and the completed volume has been accepted and paid for according to regulations.
The project has completed the construction of collector line No. 1 and collector line No. 2, the final section of the drainage line No. 3 has not been completed due to compensation for land clearance of 3 households. Therefore, it has not been connected to the drainage system of Phan Thiet City People's Committee to drain to the sea.
Mr. Trung affirmed that after receiving the site from the People's Committee of Phan Thiet City, on September 25, the construction was completed and connected to the drainage system of Phan Thiet City to ensure drainage for the area, contributing to drainage, avoiding sand overflow on Nguyen Thong Street.

Recently, after a long period of heavy rain, water from projects on the hill brought red sand down to Nguyen Thong Street, Phu Hai Ward, Phan Thiet City.
The red sand was nearly 1 meter high and stretched about 20 meters along Nguyen Thong Street, making it impossible for vehicles traveling from Phan Thiet to Mui Ne to move. The red sand also flooded into houses, roadside restaurants, burying tables and chairs...
The first heavy rain of the season that lasted through the night of May 20 and early morning of May 21 washed away a large amount of red sand from the high hills onto two sections of road in Mui Ne and Ham Tien wards (Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province), burying many houses and cars; traffic was paralyzed for many hours.
